Just sharing with all mothers here...

I've experienced what you all were going through. My son was born in July 2007. He started playgroup at 18mths old.
By the time he reached 3 yrs old, he still having problem with speech and he have short attention span.
When I asked the teacher if she suspect if there's any problem with my son, she said not to worry as some kids develop at a later age.
Or some people called it late bloomers. When he was in N2, I'm getting more worried as he didn't get any better and the teacher told
me don't socialise or communicate with his peers. He's a solitary player. Then me and my hubby decided to bring him to polyclinic for
basic assesment. The medical officer advised that my son need to see a speech therapist and was referred to KKH.

During the 1st appt at KKH, the specialist suspected my son to have ASD and required further assesments for diagnostic.
As the waiting time at KKH is very long, we decided to do it at Dynamics Success Centre. We met a psychologist and a senior occupation therapist.
Both of them did the diagnostic and within 2 weeks, we got the result. My son is diagnosed with autism due to speech issue and hyperactive.
Due to that he have to go though speech theraphy, occupational theraphy and early intervention. We did everything at Dynamics.
After a few sessions of speech theraphy, he started to communicate quite well. The therapist gave lots of tips and advises for us to train him at home.
It's been a year my son have going through therapy and he have completed his early intervention program. I can see lots of improvement in him.
In terms of communication and focusing. Now he's in K2 and just started school. He's still trying to adapt to a new environment, but he's trying
his best to adapt to a new environment.

Learning pace differs from one child to another. Sometimes, the manner of talking to your child also has a significant effect on his verbal development. Stay away from "baby talks". You can also have your child assessed by a speech therapist so you'll know if there's something that you need to worry about.

I experienced the same and was very worried like you. But don't worry too much cos every child is different, just like adult...some introvert, some extrovert. My child is so talkative now. ; -)
