Hi mummys with preemies,

Just wondering... when did you start introducing solid food for your child? At 4 months of birth age or adjusted age? Thanks for sharing! :tlaugh:

On the safer side you may want to start at 5 mths, can give puree or cereal (Frisocrem rice/brown rice).

Hi, I think it'll depend on how premature your kid is. My gal was a 33wks baby, I started her solid abt 6 mths from her birthday.

Recommended age to start solids is 6 mths. But if by 6 mths your child still hasn't shown signs of readiness for solid food, you can try waiting it out another month.

Don't know how premature your child is.

If I remember correctly, preemies should start solid food later than 6 months coz their birth is calculated differently from mature babies. Please check with your PD and don't start your preemie on solids yet.

I think mummy has to use discretion. The same guidelines apply, any time btw 6-12 mth of birth age, depending on baby's development.

However children with a family history of allergies such as allergic rhinitis (perpetual runny nose & sensitive airways), eczema and asthma are more LIKELY to develop allergies if given certain foods, esp wheat products (biscuits & rusks). Pls check with dietician, nutritionist or PD who specialises in premmies.

Have another question... how about formula? For mummys giving formula to their preemie child, do you upgrade the formula at adjusted age or birth age? Thanks again for sharing!:tlaugh:

My boy was on formula for premature and underweight babies. I switched to the normal formula when his weight increased to an average baby's weight. From then on, I just follow the guidelines for any normal babies. Introduced solids when he was 6 mths. Now he is a healthy and active 18 mth.

hi mummy, for me I switched formula according to my dd birthday and not the expected Edd. Guess it depend on individual kid, my dd was slow in the first 3 mths but subsequently she catch up and her milestone is on par.

Solid foods are a big step in the child. Find out when and how the transition from breast milk, formula or solid foods. The intestines are the body filtering system, screening for potentially harmful substances and rental of healthy ingredients.

I read some where that me six month is good to introduce solid food to your premature baby. But i want to suggest you that you have to take advise form the doctor to start solid food to your premature baby.
