Itching/Discomfort on side of head from eye brow to behind ear

My 4 mth old baby girl appears to touch the left side of her head from her eyebrow to behind her ear very often. There does not seem to be anything there - no rashes or bumps. There is a reddish spot at the back of her neck. One doc said it is a heat rash.

About 10 days ago we brought her to an ENT specialist as there was a foul smell coming from the same left ear. He removed some skin and said that it was eczema. He applied an antiseptic cream to the ear and advised us to keep the ear dry for 10 days (which we obediantly did).Could she be suffering from eczema on her scalp too, and if so, why is there no redness or scaling of the skin?

Any mummies with kids suffering from eczema? What medication is suitable for infants and how do you relieve the discomfort.

BTW - my baby does not seem to be feeding less or losing weight. I might be paranoid but I think that she might be smiling less though!

Both my kids have eczema since birth. It's usually from food allergy or chemicals.

For both of them the red bumps didn't come up immediately. Usually it was just dry patch of skin, not scaly looking but dry when you touched it.

Since my husband nor I don't suffer from either problem, I assumed it was chemicals first and replaced the bath wash, shampoo and moisturiser since we used these daily. We noticed an improvement from the next day. So now I only use sensitive skin formulas. Though still use normal laundry washing powder. Even now 2 years later when they have bubble baths 2 days in a row my daughter will tell me her skins starts to feel itchy.

Last time we went PD advised me to use Physiogel if the eczema wasn't too bad. So I now keep a tube at home but rarely need to use it since we switched to sensitive skin products.

Thanks Lotus!

Yeah we need to assess what is causing the eczema. I was thinking of bathing her more often but after reasing your post, I eralise that might be counter-productive.

Will look up and try the Physiogel. HUbby brought home Dentinox shampoo for the cradle cap yesterday. Will see whether that helps as well.

I guess with all allergies, it will be a matter of time before our babies outgrow them. BTW what brand of sensitive skin products are you using for your babies?
