Overpacking for Vacation

Hi all,
Just read this article about Overpacking
Was wondering how do you all avoid overpacking the luggages for family trip? especially with kids coming along.

I usually try to limit my family's luggage to 1-2 luggages max. One big and maybe one small cabin-sized one.
For clothes, I try to choose items that can mix-and-match, so I can re-wear them and pack less. Or if I'm going to hotter countries, I'll bring thinner, lighter clothes that I can wash. Then for packing, I find that rolling the clothes up helps! Some people also vacuum pack the clothes so they suck all the air out and save space.

But the only problem is that when I bring my family to winter countries, the jackets tend to be very bulky and puffy Anyone has any tips or products that they use that you find are effective but not so difficult to pack?

yeah same here. I over pack and end up not using about a third of my luggage
