Mummies, im currently in my 23weeks, and i just went for my 20 weeks detailed scan today, i was told that my baby might risk down syndrome as his neck is slightly thicker than average babies, any advice? its measuring 7.3cm now.

don't be disheartened first.. you can see another gynae or do the scan 1 more time for 2nd opinion??
if result is still the same perhaps you can go for further testing, usually doctor will recommend amniocentesis.

meanwhile try not to stress yourself before anything is confirm yah..

good luck.

When my sis-in-law did her detailed scan, her gynae did tell her that the baby has risk of being a down syndrome. She was crying as she was carrying a boy and already has a girl who is now over 2 years of age. We told her to seek 2nd opinion and then the other gynae suggested to her to do amniocentesis as it can detect DS quite accurately. She did as recommended (this test has a 2-5% miscarriage risk) and the result was that the baby is normal. The baby boy is now 3 months old, he is adorable, interactive, happy and normal baby.

Don't be despair; get a second opinion and do the amniocentesis test to confirm.

Best of luck and may everything works out well for you.

u can call up KK to fix appointment saying u wanna do the amnio test and see how they charge

if not , go to another gynae and check before the 5weeks ..

see how the test go and decide ..

One of my friend's friend did a scan at 3 mth n doc said her bb is abnormal n recommend abortion. The parents insisted on carrying on. At 5th mth scan, found out bb is totally normal. My friend also, at 3 mth, doc said her bb has thicker neck, at risk but later scans show she's ok. Me too, at first doc said my bb at risk of down syndrome, recommended amniocenthesis but I dun want to have the risk of miscarriage n so wat if down syndrome? I will still keep bb regardless so no use finding out. I rejected amnio. At 5th mth scan, doc said bb is normal. So actually, the scans r not as accurate as ppl thot they r.

Hi,

I had a down syndrome scare as well during my pregnancy. Doc said high risk and asked me to go for amnio but i wasn't willing to risk the chance of a miscarriage. We ended up seeing this indian doc (can't remember his name) at Camden Medical Centre, did a very detailed scan where he measured every single part of my baby and told me that he will quit if my baby is born with down syndrome. The scan cost $500+ but it put my heart at ease.

Go google it and decide if you wanna see him? But i definitely advice you to get a 2nd opinion cos there are really a lot of false alarms...and the worst is to have you really upset and have a healthy crying baby.

Take care!

Hi there, was it Dr Chinnayya Anandakumar who did your scan? I lost my 1rst angel last year at just 3 months,to a congenital heart syndrome called TAPVC which is suppose to be just 1% of all congenital heart probs,,and now am preggy again.. and my Dr here in Srilanka, reccomended this prefessor in singapore Dr Anandakumar for a anomaly scan at 20 weeks.. Im hoping to go for it next month, and my dr has promised to accompany me as well :).. just wanted to know if what type of a person this Dr is, I heard he`s brilliant, but Im just a bit scared about the whole thing..Thankyou so much..
