anyone has any advice for pre-natal yoga? Do you find it useful?
So far i only manage to find classes available at True Yoga... Other recommendations please?

Thanks!

Hi Stan, I tried the prenatal yoga classes at Como Shambhala (Forum Mall - first trial free) and Mother and Child Center (Tanglin Mall - trial $30) this week.

Como Shambhala is a proper yoga studio while Mother and Child uses an activity room. There were also fewer moms-to-be at CS (not sure if it was because I went to CS on Thursday evening and M&C on Sunday morning).

Both instructors are knowledgeable but the M&C instructor was not their usual instructor who's on leave until late April. I find that CS focuses more on helping you prepare for the labor/delivery, while M&C focuses more on bonding with the baby.

I'm going to be signing up for the package at CS just because the classes are smaller and they have proper equipment (blankets, belts, mats, etc). Both packages cost about the same. Hope this helps :)

hi karoru, u can chk out Como Shambhala - COMO Hotels and Resorts - COMO Shambhala Urban Escape and Mother and Child offers prenatal antenatal and postnatal yoga and pilates in Tanglin Mall (Singapore)

i'm at my week 12 now and also thinking of signing up for prenatal yoga. my gynae's general advice was not to do exercise that i normally do not do. before pregnancy i wld just swim once a week and sometimes (1 a mth) go for boxercise at Cali. so not sure whether yoga wld be suitable. have been to normal yoga classes before and am not a fan

anyone knows whether the sales at Como are pushy? coz i'm keen to trial but not sure abt signing yet

K-mom... thanks for the info and your tots/comments esp you have gone for the trials.... it is useful!! i think i may go for the trials too! I am actually looking for somethg that will help in the delivery...so for now CS seems more for me... when are you starting?

Pmiumiu... thanks for the link... i am reaching week 12 and i used to run 1-2 times a week... but gynae advised me not to run since it is high impact. I tried to swim but it has been raining =P.... quite desperate for a good workout!!!

i don't find CS pushy. in fact they advised me to only sign up on the first day i want to start the package as the validity period (think it was 4 months) will start from then. M&C did not push me either to sign up for their package but could have been because only the yoga teacher and not the usual receptionist was available on sunday.

Stan and pmiumiu, you should definitely go for the trials first to see if you are comfortable with the classes/instructors/venue. But you'll need to book the classes in advance - just give them a call 2-3 days in advance and let them know you'd like to try out their prenatal classes. I wouldnt sign for a package without trying out the place.

i was an infrequent gym goer before my pregnancy - hehe - and was actually trying to lose weight. gynae gave me go-ahead as long as i don't overdo the exercise. my gym has aqua fit classes too and i just let the instructor know that i'm preggie so she tells me what not to do. heard that walking's very good too :)

Hi mummies & mummies-to-be,

Would like to share with all of you on my prenatal yoga experience. Before getting pregnant with my first boy, i had severe lower back pain due to a fall that i had back in school days. I was really worried when i became pregnanat as i was really sure that this pain will get more serious and worse (thats what the doc says) as the weight of tummy weigh you down. Anyway, i happened to chance upon this instructor from another forum. I tried her for a few lessons and thats it, the pain slowly reduce and became bearable and eventually gone. She did my postural analysis and did lessons planning just for me as I was an exceptional case, preggie with a broken tailbone. I was so thankful to her as she seemed to have performed a miracle on me. Anyway, i did post natal with her after my first boy, i lost the fats and was tonned (even tonner than where i was before getting pregnant). When i was pregnant with my 2nd boy, i went with her for classes again, this time around..a total different and much easier experience cos i did not feel any aches or pain in my tailbone anymore. Just thought i should share this expereince as good instructors are hard to come by. Some of them i knew from my younger days are either cant be bothered or just for the money. She felt more like a good fren now, always with very reliable advises, which are all very useful to me. If anyone should be interested in doing prenatal yoga, you must give her a trial and you will understand what i meant. its definitely value for money (thats what all consumers look out for, right?), that amount of dedication and passion she has in teaching. She is by the name of War War and website is www.ohmsantih.com (no:93362556). Good luck to all & have a wonderful preg experience!

Hi Zaclin29!

Thanks for the recommendation!
We have prenatal yoga classes every Saturday 11am -12pm happening at 20 Cross Street, near Raffles Place / Chinatown MRT.
Prenatal Yoga is extremely beneficial for expecting mothers as it helps in building strength, confidence and stamina. At the same time, it is a great way to reduce common aches and pain during pregnancy. Making friends during prenatal yoga class is a plus point too!

Happy prenatal yoga with ohmsantih yoga (Home). Several colleagues and friends have attended classes at the school and everyone only have praises.
And one word of advise, be sure to check that the yoga teacher is certified because the very first one I had prior at ohmsantih was a 'fake' teacher without proper certification.:nah:
Good luck all! :Dancing_wub:

i am a yogi for 4 yrs and practiced yoga thru out my pregnancy except in my first trimester. i practice in pure yoga @nee ann city. they offer prebatal class think3-4x a wk and the teacher's name ia charmaine. she.is really good and.is specialised prenatal yoga.

i cant stop.singing.praises abt yoga bcoz i.lost 10-15kg.by.diet and.yoga.alone in 8months. it also regulate my menses from 2-3month.once to monthly same day. i guess that was.the real.reason why i got.pregnant after juz trying for.1-2.months.

whn i got.pregnant, yoga help me.control my weight gain(i was still.overweight.whn.i got.pregnant and got gestional diabetes) i didnt go on.insulin but.juz doet control. yoga helped to normalises.my sugar level and i.gain.only 6-7kg thruout my whole.pregnancy. which was excellent given my BMI, i can only max.gain 8-9kg. my baby was.healthy at the.birthweight.of 3.29kg at 40+3weeks, which wasnt too big or too small.

on top of that i got almost.no.back.pain and.leg cramp and.minimal foot.edema too. i think thats bcoz i did yoga thru.out.my pregnancy. i was still bery agile even whn i am term. i still do yoga.at.home.on top of going to the.studio.

i am so grateful to.have.found.this.sport that i.love and juz.so.happy to share this with all.of u.
