Restricted diet during BF

Dear mommies!

Have been exclusively pumping, recently my soon to be 4mth old developed rashes all over her body, PD mentioned it might be eczema. I'm told to avoid shellfish,nuts , eggs n foods tat might potentially cause allergies...

It's getting abit tiring scrutinising my meal options these days, wondering if anyone has similar experience m wld like to share?

I know what you mean! It's like during pregnancy you already had a restrictive diet. After birth you thought it's over...but it isn't!

Well, actually i ate whatever i wanted when i was BFing. But tried to stay away from peanuts (in case baby was allergic) and veggies that might give baby gas. That was about it.

Since your baby might be allergic, just hang in there a couple more months! Good job choosing to BF!

Thanks for your encouragement! Yes trying hard to keep going, supply is gd but I'm returning to work soon...still following up on my breast lump issues but can't agree more that breastmilk is the best for our little ones!

Hi Marie,

Same here but my son got it on both his cheeks!

Since then stop taking cheese & chocolate or any dairy products.
Fresh milk only 1 cup a day.

Any other food stuff, I just eat moderately.

Mom said no tea cos too "cooling", not gd for baby.
Coffee only 1 cup a week...

So far my boy didn't have it recurring.

Another cause is BM on his face, so after every feed will clean his face with warm water on cotton ball.
Partially also cos he sucks his mittens, rub his face & eyes... so sure got BM stain somewhere... Sometimes will still have a little rashes but goes away very fast.

Thanks for your well wishes, yes my little one had milk rash too, haha we started removing her mittens(she is turning 4mths in a week) coz she was having the wet mittens all over her face...just clip her nails more regularly to avoid scratches...

Apparently my bb got my genes for allergies, most of my family have some form of it..There goes my favourite food, haha I still have cravings so many months postpartum...,

My boy is going 10 weeks old.
Change his wet mittens like 5-6 times a day!

Every time after he latch, he will be in a drunk mode & just lay back, the BM will drop all over the face -_-"

The other day I secretly snack on ice cream snickers (not suppose to lah) then the rashes start again!

So no choice, a lot of food cannot eat!

How long u intend to BF?

My hubby starting to complain say very troublesome at work... Cos we work together

Yep had milk dripping on my little one too coz she can't latch well... Had infection n lump issues do hav been expressing since very early on...my little one loved e bottle so hard to get her off:-(

I hav been freezing EBM since Jan to tide me over, trying to target one yr but it's challenging...office has no nursing room n pretty male dominated but I'm lucky as we do shift work n can work fm home once a week, so now it's jus stock n stock n hope supply don't drop!

Hope u keep goin too, maybe talk to ur hubby on ur targets! My hubby is pretty supportive coz it's our 1st bornhaha n on practical grounds, he thinks can save loads of money...hahaha

My boy is ok with nuk wide neck bottle & latching.
But lately got bad habit, like to suck & have some leaking fr his mouth at the same time.. Maybe drinking too fast..
Sometimes even spit a little -_-"

I tried b4 giving thawed EBM but my boy didn't like the taste...
Need to try again cos I'm over supply now... Then can only store in fridge for 7 days.
Have to get another fridge soon cos not enough space already..

My hubby is ok with whatever I want to do, just that our work (in retail) is very bz.. So sometimes it's hard for me to just walk away to pump.. Also quite short handed.
Scare my supply will drop due to delay pump
Guess better settle wk problems soon so I can go there lesser days.
My side no actual nursing rm but got diaper changing room which share the same space with handicap toilet... The cleaner told me can use that but I didn't like the idea of it...

Actually can save how much per mth?
I didn't like FM cos my boy get constipation & will be very grouchy.
Tat tin of FM only drank abt 6-8 times since born.. Such a waste!

My target also 1yr but maybe after bb got teeth dont latch Liao...
But he will demand for it... By then dunno how..

Oh I have been freezing my milk, baby is ok but sometimes fussy even with just chilled EBM...she will drink n play wif e bottle teat, must feed in 2 batches sometimes. think wat u can do is jus feed defrosted supply once a day n mix wif some chilled one, maybe wont be too bad...latching is out for me coz from day 1 she can't n won't..even the LC fm Thomson told me she has character, either wanna play or scream in frustration :-( plus she had jaundice for quite long, not serious but it made her very sleepy for almost 2mths

My colleagued use the common washroom or hide in some server room to express milk,kinda unhygienic, but no choice..I'm hoping to do more weekend work n can express in comfort at home, work in shipping operations so it's hard but can work fm home occasionally,Hubby is construction engineer, always disappear for nite shift so haha he supports my decision to bf for as long as possible coz he is often away n he scared i tell him to change job....hoping for 1yr! I'm returning to work in 2 weeks so will see how things go *keeping fingers crossed*

Keep goin the e meantime it's gd ur supply is there! Just express what u can, u can continue freezing n next time when bb weans at old can mix wif cereals etc

I had the same problem with my first born. DS was purely breast fed. He was 2 months old when I started to notice rashes were all over his face. It eventually spread all over the body. I thought he had measles, I was scared to death. His pedia told me I should stay away from food that may trigger allergy. I remembered I was eating chocolates and nuts. I stopped eating chocolates and nuts at once. Gladly, the rashes eventually faded.

Breast feeding moms must pay special attention to everything that they eat or drink since it may cross the breast milk and may cause unwanted reaction to the baby.

My boy must latch at least once a day!!!
At night if I'm working late... He will keep looking to latch until tired & fall asleep...
These 2 days he's damn happy cos got more time at home so he get to latch more & slp with me!

I just threw away 3-4 days of supply
Cos more than 8 days in fridge, I didn't freeze them. Since thaw bm didn't wok, I didn't proceed to freeze.
Very wasted ah!!

To use as milk bath scare he will have rashes...
U think drinking & bathing with it will make any difference?

Oh, it's really unhygienic to express in server room.
Common washroom got daily wash ok but I always very fast seal the bm, scare got germs.
Shopping centre toilet even though wash daily also not very clean cos all kinds of ppl are using it!!

Lately my maid cook the veg not well cook enough, my tummy don't feel gd, bb also same symptom, so funny!
Cos he fart & poo so loud like adult!

Did u still drink coffee & bubble tea?

I wonder does it really affect or not..

I need to buy another fridge for BM cos current fridge already not much space for chilling part...
Freezer part even worse.. No space ah.. I don't want put bm next to those meat/chicken also..

For me situation has made a turn for the worse, I had an infection over the weekend, 2nd time in 4mths n I've got a lump which is actually breast tissue so I have to constantly monitor the size every mth wif e breast surgeon, really tough time, I will decide when I really have to stop after next specialist visit if i really gotta wean off, wish I only had e BF diet issue to deal wif...but I'm still positive abt being able to pull it thru for a mth or two, I jus refused to giv up, lol, hardcore...

My freezer has no space too, so wat I'm doin now is stock up till I max up e space n once full, defrost n feed bb older stock so got free space to freeze more. Hav e milk on top on my frozen foods; can bag in huge ziplocs if u are scared of other food smell... My bb was ok wif drinking mixed chilled+defrosted EBM n she dint LS....Jus gotta get bb used to e taste I think...

Hey Marie!

U know what causes the infection?

I noticed lumps too but as long latch & pump on time they disappear.
Sometimes "over pump" cos I fell asleep... So end up the pump went on for 45mins & stop automatically.
But I notice the lumps & engorgement disappear!

Not hardcore, it's a mummy's love for the child

For now, I throw away EBM daily that's more than 8 days old
Will try freezing soon. Hope my boy will take thawed bm!
Tot buy another fridge that's below $300 to keep bm & veg.
Now the current fridge quite overload also.

My boy quite fussy, when I'm ard he will want to latch & refuse the bottle.. ESP if I'm the 1 who's going to feed him.
My mom says bb tends to look for mummy b4 their bedtime, they just want to stick to mummy & latch & cuddle... Dunno true or not.
But I rather be more tired than keep letting maid take care lor...

Does your bb do that?

Oh babies r smart! For my bb, she learnt to latch late n I've pumped n given via bottle fm very early on so she doesn't actually latch much but she does bully pple! Haha if my hubby feeds her, she will play longer n take her time, hahaha! Also, they have very strong sense of smell, ur baby cld probably smell u n associate you with latching n the close attachment so maybe u need to increase frequency of giving bottle yourself so baby gets used to it that mummy also feeds fm bottle.

I'm much better now but guess it's just a physical issue also. My left breast nipple is a little short n bb had jaundice n was more sleepy than anything= poor n refusal to latch...Had lumps on n off n one became a 'permanent' tissue mass so it overall affects the flow.jus monitoring wif breast specialist.thankfully supply on right side's gd so managed to bf dear princess to date.

My boy enjoy latching, to a point when he finish drinking, he will play with it
U can hear the suckling sound so loud!
These days I latch once after work. By the time I put him back to sleep is around 6-7am..

He only drinks fr bottle (from my hand) when he's super sleepy or hungry...

He's the little emperor at home!!
He will wail so loud & so pitiful when he don't gets what he wants.. As long he knows I'm at home.
Really bully me big time!

Beginning I also have lots of lumps, keep trying the heat pad method & keep latching as & when I can. Cold compress don't work for me, make it worse.
By 2nd mth, feels much smoother, less engorge problem unless overslept.
No engorge & keep pump on time = no lumps.
U must keep going ok

Got new finding today!
Curry gave lotsa wind & probably too heaty for bb to poo!!

I had naan & paper prata with briyani & fish curry last night... So end up my boy had lotsa wind & hard to poo..
Can't sleep well also, being fussy.
This afternoon got loud thunder, he cried real bad & demand for me only to carry. Yesterday afternoon also but after he settle down I went to work.
Today, I think he knew I didn't go work so he refuse to be let down alone or sleep on his own after I pacify him (cos of the thunder)...
End up kept playing with him, must slp on my arm also..
Then finally all is well after he poo LOTS!
The poo so power until can splash with the fart haha!

Now finally he's asleep for 3hrs straight, whole afternoon never really sleep more than 2hrs.

Haha yea babies are always the little prince/princesses! My little gal often moans when grandma is ard coz grandma often gives in n carry her but thankfully my mum will put her in e cot after awhile coz she thinks it ain't too good for babies to be carried too long, plus my princess getting heavier lol! We giv her a pacifier sometimes to help her sleep by herself, but so far it only works when she's really exhausted, else gotta carry abit, hsha! My little one dreams a lot now so we avoid playing wif her too much after 8plus,coz she can sleep thru e nite if she doesn't dream...there were a couple of times she got scared by thunder, when tat happens we quickly pick her up n cuddle her close...

Abt e lumps u had,Probably was milk accumulated causing the lumps, jus continue ur gd job in clearing them, i hav that wif blocked ducts, hard to clear n got infected, To complicate it, i got this lump which is a tissue mass n breast surgeon said nothing can be done coz its like ur own flesh, jus monitoring to ensure it doesn't grow bigger n maybe after i wean baby we hav to see if it shrinks or look at other options like surgical removal if it's a major issue....why some mothers hav it is not clear but main reason is hormones fm pregnancy/postpartum...

Diet is important when bf! Hehe my princess got prolonged jaundice n my elders refused to let me off confinement food which was e main culprit as i did 100% bf n PD ran some tests n realised baby lacked certain enzymes.You might also wanna note to avoid beans n cabbage as they can cause gas, I did tis when my baby was colicky as advised by e PF. Peanuts, shellfish n even eggs do cause allergies so be careful wif them...

I'm looking fwd to returning to work in a few days, hopefully can still continue bf wif no issues, keke

my boy will demand for attention, guess he knows who are the ones he can really BULLY haha!
ya lor, kept reminding my maid not to always carry, if not always want to carry.
Also Cos I don't want wait bb take her as mummy. So sometimes even very tired, I'll let bb sleep with us, unless I'm rushing work.

So I guess my boy dreams a lot! Cos a lot of noise when slp with us...

sometimes I wake up with block ducts, dunno why also.. Maybe never sleep properly..
So painful when pumping.. Must continuous latch 3-4 times the nit cleared.

Hope your issue will be resolve soon, best no need surgery even.

now I'm so deprived of a lot of food... Everyday also hungry...
but at night it's more of sleepy rather than hungry so just sleep it off.
im on confinement food for 30 days, stayed home 40 days besides check up but still I went back to work for 3 days or so.

If only I can don't go work.. Hehe want to spend more time with bb.
Now I go to work around 3-4 days per week then some work do at home.

just hope can get the right staff so I can stay home more.

Hahaha my bb whines whenever she sees my mum but we insist our bb sleeps alone in her room most of e time, haha abit mean but it works wonders! Bb is more independent n she can sleep thru e nite. We jus pop in her room fm time to time to check on her,learnt tis fm my expat colleagues but haha some grandparents wld not like e idea...

Abt the lumps,Sometimes sleeping position plays a part...I use an xtra pillow to relief some pressure as I often sleep on my side. I jus got my infection cleared but will see wat breast surgeon says next mth...maybe wean earlier if no improvement....no choice

Im lucky to hav full 16 weeks leave plus a few more days of carried fwd leave, jus a little sad tat bb is now fostered out on weekdays during my work hours. But thankfully I'm still pushing on wif expressing my milk n nanny is supportive of bf, jus stressful as hubby's workplace has shifted some 1.5hrs away, we don't intend to hire a maid so things can get abit tiring but we stay wif my parents so we hav a lot of support..,.jus usual in law issues hahaha
