The calendar is not always accurate. It wasn't accurate for my friend though that 8 months was supposed to be girl.

Do use more motivating books like those with stickers, more activities and full of pictures for younger students.
Normally my younger students do understand. Even those at age of 3. Do incoperate more activities during lesson for students with short concentration span.
Actually learning music at an early age has a lot of benefits. Especially learning before the age of 6 will develop a good ear.

It is always good to start with piano first. As for theory books, they are easily available at music schools like yamaha, robert piano or christofori. Most music schools sell music books.

Good to go for music appreciation at young age. About 2+. But upon reaching 3,4 when they can read and write alphabets and numbers, try to go for individual classes. If not u will regret wasting time. Most of the parents feedback to me.

Yes i do have quite a couple of them in my 10 years of teaching but they usually stop about 6 mths later. Reason being no time etc.

Leanne, do go ahead and teach him. But do note that foundation is the most important. I think u will agree with me that inexperienced teacher can teach grade 1 and above or at least students with some foundation already but they find it difficult to...
Normally i drill a lot on theory and give them a lot of exercises. My students have no problem with it. Even if they have, they (or their parents) will msn, sms or call me.
For students at young age, i do not encourage them to take theory first as the time values is quite difficult for them...
