If your baby just started or going to start with semi solid, better get those cereal instead of cooking the brown rice on ur own. cos when they just started semi solid, the texture shd be watery enough for them to swallow. I used to get Healthy Times & Happybellies cereal for ds. both brands has brown rice. Healthy Times is available at NTUC Xtra and organic shops and Happybellies is available at some organic shops like vitakids =)

Hi I buy my brown rice from organic vegetable stall at ang mo kio.I go for organic for my baby. The brand has an elephant cartoon, doesn't need to soak. About $9.50 for 2 kg. U can get this at those shops selling healthy food or other shops. It is quite common. This brand doesn't need to soak can cook immediately.

Alternatively u can get the normal one fm ntuc. But take note you need to soak. else hard to digest....

Brown rice is harder to digest.
We started with brown rice cereal, easy to prepare in small amount.

Then brown rice porridge. After cooking, blend to make it smooth.

Besides brown rice, I've introduced multi-grains to my boy over time: millet, quinoa, barley, oat groats. Can get from organic stores. Wider range of nutrition than brown rice alone. :)

Initially, I only introduce 1 new type of grain.
At least after 3-7 days in a row, to confirm no allergy.

After a while, he had tried at least 5 dif grains.
So I mix the grains in an airtight container, shake to mix them up.
Rinse a little.
Soak for at least 8 hours or overnight.
Use the soaking water to cook because the nutrients are in it.

Can just cook the multigrains as porridge or add some normal white rice to it.
Depending on how well your baby or toddler can digest it.

My boy is on almost full vegetarian diet, so I don't cook white rice for him at home.

He started eating brown rice porridge at about 9-10 months old.
I also prepare vegetable stock to cook with the porridge for more nutrients and taste.

Vege stock: sweetcorn, carrots, potatoes / onions / celery (all cut into smaller pieces).
Put in pot, add enough water to cover the ingredients.
Cook on high heat for 15 minutes, then medium for 30 minutes.
Use 1 portion for the day's porridge.
Freeze the rest and use over 2-3 days.

Can mash the carrots, potatoes, etc to give baby too.

When baby is older, can use same type of vege stock to cook rice.
Or cook rice / noodles / pasta with water, serve the vege stock as soup.
My boy is almost 3 yrs old and still loves to drink it.
