I think thread fin is the best 
but expensive. But it has one of the most 'fishy' smell.
i put a piece of pork and some carrot for the taste. in the end, it taste sweet - healthy version

hmm.. sorry to ask is threadfish called " nyon he" --> in hokkien?
maybe u can try a porridge without fish and see the result .
example like :" spanish with potatoes and pork/chicken." sweet potatoes , pumpkin , carrot, broccoil, cabbage. every day different also can . of course u can add wolfberries is gd man.
when my boy was 6 month he love the porridge that i add with " fish , meat and potatoes. " now he is every thing also eat.
soy sauce i dun recommend. so far is strongly disagree.
