at the rate i'm pumping,it means that i have to store ~70ml ebm in 180ml storage bags??i'm like visualising many half-filled storage bags in the fridge...

for this among several reasons, i prefer using glass bottles to store my EBM.

I too wasnt very disciplined and only pumped 1-2 times a day. But I'm glad that I started stockpiling about 5 weeks ago and I have about 1 week's supply (yeah, I know its very little :p) in the freezer.
haha. I was like you at one stage in time, had about 1~2 months worth of supply. Till my whole freezer is full. The sad story is now the supply is drying up...

For me I using mumsfairymilk tray to mk my ebm into 1oz milk bar then I storethe desired no of bar in my storage bag ie 6 bars per bag so I don really face any wastage

i'm also using milk trays and i would say i love them for 2 reasons: minimize wastage of EBM and more storage space in my very compact freezer :)

I can now store more in less space and now that my supply is slowly going downhill, it's good that wastage can be minimized to a maximum of 30ML/1 oz bar so i have more to keep going for some time. IMO, totally worth the price

Quan seems to be rejecting the bottles now and I'm going back to work on next week!!! He drank only 40 - 60ml when given bottle and would rather wait for me to nurse him directly. What can I do to improve the situation??

i think babies and children are quite amazing sometimes. not sure if you would believe, but I think quan 'knows' instinctively that certain routine is going to change soon, esp if you have been doing some kind of dry run or rehearsal in this couple of weeks, and perhaps that's why he is behaving differently this week.

who is currently giving quan the bottle? who will be taking care of quan when u go back to work?

i remember during my dry runs, i ensure that i am never the one who gave my boy the bottle. it was daddy for the few night-time rehearsals at our home, before we took him daily to my mum's place for the real dry run and then my mum would exclusively bottle-feed him. as for my disappearing acts from my mum's place during the two weeks of dry run, i would 'disappear' for increasingly longer hours gradually, so that my boy got phased in slowly and could adjust gradually without any problem and yet be assured that I would come back for him.

some babies and their working mummies practise what is termed as reverse cycling (i think this is what it's called). That is, babies will take less milk during the daytime, and drink more via direct latch after their mothers return from work. this also helps to relieve the stress from working moms to have to pump and store a lot of EBM. perhaps u can monitor quan's overall daily milk intake, rather than per session. if he still seems generally fine with drinking less during daytime and waiting for you to come back to latch on, and he continues to be active, happy and gain weight well, then it could well be that he has weaned himself into 'reverse cycling'.

My maid is the one giving him the bottle now. What I'm worried now is I'll be away for 5 days and I cant stop worrying that he will be starved. Or am I worrying too much and that he will eventually takes the bottle when he gets too hungry??

oh, u need to travel for business? hmm....i think u just have to take a leap of faith and monitor quan's response for the rest of this week, while u try to simulate being away from him the entire day. hopefully he will adjust quickly. babies do have amazing adjustability too, so your worries might be unfounded and you could be pleasantly surprised. =>

ally, don't worry too much k? Babies are rather resilient creatures. If you're still concerned about his "small" intake, then perhaps you can increase the frequency by dream feeding either during the day or at night if he's sleeping through.

jan25, those milk trays are a very good idea, especially if you're on the "low" side or don't have much storage space. It can be a morale boost when you look at it psychologically (breastfeeding is just half of that). Also, have you tried increasing your fluid intake? I find that in my case, two things affect my supply drastically - my period and fluid intake.

Thx cmeilin and mabel for the comforting words. Perhaps I've really worried too much :p

I've also purchased a set of the milk tray but yet to use. Still trying to clear the 10 boxes of milk bags.

that's why i think moms who continue to breatfeed their babies after returning to work are really very self-sacrificing.....(Pls don't mistake this as saying moms who stop are any lesser moms hor....)

jan25, jia you! just keep encouraging yourself by telling yourself that you are doing your baby a lot a lot of good. it's the best present you can, and only you can, give your baby.
