Which Non-Private Hospital is Better?

hi hi,

i am not sure if you wanna consider kkh as some of the mummies had not so good experiences there.....compared to the private ones.

i feel that its a "heng-suay" thing, because just happened on that day that u deliver u may have met the best staff nurse, the good nurse on duty, the friendly ah-soh, the good or experienced or trying to be experienced gynae on duty and that the gynae that you booked is available to deliver for you. For me i met all of the foresaid ones except there was a not-so-good male gynae on duty supposed to check for dilation. He scared me by saying "if u r still not dilated by ++hours, i have to do emergency c-section on you because sometimes the umbilical cord gets dislodged due to water bags burst". But i told my DH incase i passed out or cannot utter a single word due to pains, he has to help me convey my message that "NO, I DO NOT WANT C-SECTION!!!"

heee...but everything went on fine la....so i thought he really made me feel so scared and restless on top of the labour pains lor...very bad.

so dun worry, many a times some things are dependent upon your luck and the acquaintenances.

Hi Ladies,

Thank you for the feedback so far. But is KKH really much more expensive than private? If between NUH and SGH which is better? Anyone knows or had delivered there before?

Think SGH & NUH should be alright as seen from here not much negative comment abt this 2 gov hospital.. At least i find SGH & NUH nurse is more friendly than KKH..

My point of view in KKH is you got to pay more $ to get good service etc..

Dear mummies,

Can advise which non-private hospital is better if don't want to go to private hospital? Thank you.
Go to KKH for the state-of-the-art equipments ... this is critical if the pregnancy is not so much a straightforward one.
For your info, in some cases, complicated cases still get transferred to KHH ... from other hospitals, whetehr private or not.

Go to NUH for the more established gynaes ... the most senior there are Prof Mary Rauff & Prof PC Wong, the former being a very nice gentle lady who delivered both my sons.
If nothing else, these 2 share a private practice in Mount E besides heading the O&G Dept in NUH.

I dun think SGH should even come into the discussion ...
In Singapore, every government structured hospital have their own areas of specialisation ... & SGH's is simply not in O&G.

KKH...Agree that's the main consideration when I had my first delivery. My gynae is good hence going back to her but have to check if she can do for other hosp cos really want to try TMC instead of KKH this time.

SGH...Agree and their facilities look the most run-down.

just to share my experience. i delivered in KKH, under subsidised rate... no problems with me.. i chose 5 bedded with aircon, (cause i am afraid of being alone, but ended up, there is only me and another patient opp me.) bill came close to 2200.. cause i hog on the delivery suite for around 12-14 hours. everything paid through medisave and got some cash back. not deposit required.

i do agree that choosing docs, nurses, and hosp is a heng-sway thing. the nurses and mid-wife whom i met in late 2007, is friendly and patience with me. hence, i have no problem. and throughout my whole stay in the suite, it was the same mid wife who attend to me.

my previous exp at nuh, not due to preg, is for another op behind my head, was a bad one... doc promised that i will be out of the theatre within 45 mins, ended up, i was in for a few hours. my parents waited like mad... and i was still young that time. having my o's!!! the doc only want to put me on anesthetic, ONLY WHEN HE WANTS TO DO STITCHING!!! I can feel the pain practically, throughout the whole op!!! discharging was like a hell too!!! i was asked to stand and wait at the recept to wait for invoicing and letter. my dad was waiting me and standing for a few hours to wait for that invoice and letter...

Nv tried SGH before.. only went for the A&E...

I hav 2 agree with u!

I'm expecting 3rd one & still go back to kkh cos i find my gynae ok. But this time round, I am very pissed with ADC (where they do scanning for Down & detailed scan). This time round, my fetus hav some minor heart issue thus keep going back to ADC to monitor. I am pretty upset cos there's nothing they can do but to monitor & fixing another appointment & to monitor only. Best part is each time they tell me "oh the fetus is still too small, not so clear yet...." -- then what's the point of asking me to keep going back???????

I just went to ADC this morning for my detailed scan & again they will check the heart details again. This time, everything are normal except there is some minor leaking/backflow of blood (normal blood flow is one way). After scanning, I was told to wait for a doctor who will explain the results to me. I waited for more than an hour b4 the doctors appeared to attend to us! There isn't any doctor around for that hour at all n we (mothers) jus waited for nothing! There isn't many patients at all, the files jus didn't move at all n the counter nurses r so free! All they can tell us is the doctor will attend to us soon! My scan end T 10.53am & I only see the doc at 12.05pm!!! The consultation lasted for less than 1-2 min!!

The Indian doctors who explained to me didn't give a satisfied reply at all n they dun even understands the word 'valve' when i asked Qs!! Again, she told me to come back for scanning in 3 weeks time!

I asked her, so what if the condition got worse, what is the doctors goin to do abt it? Instead of answering to my concerns she jus explained the possible defects if the conditions worsen then ended saying 4 my case it will not be that serious....

Tt's the problem with specialized departments, each dept has their own agenda n i hav a feeling they r using the mothers to collect data for the studies!!

I'm going to write to the Head of Dept to explain my fetus condtitions in writing instead!!

If in pte clinic, only the Down test is done by the hospital, the rest r deal by the gynae personally... ...

I delivered all my 3 kids in KKH and i have no problem with them. Maybe i am lucky, the nurse and midwife are very nice. I took B1 class and my gynae, Dr Han delivered and stitch for me. I paid with medisave and still get some refund but cant remember how much i paid for downpayment. I stay only for a day and my stay in the delivery suit is short.

I gave birth to all 4 kids at SGH. Don't look run down to me. Have you been there inside the O&G or request for a labour ward tour before saying that?
