My lil boy has Urinary Tract Infection - UTI.He is only 3 weeks old.I went to Kandang Kerbau Hospital & got him admitted 2day morning @ 1am.But,i was soo pissed of widd the MOs -Medical Officer there.Seriously treating a lil boy like a guinea pig whu is so young. They said he have block nose & might be a suspected virus.Taking lots of blood sample & not keeping up to what they say.Fcukkin HELL.Thereafter couldnt tolerate what they were doing.Got hym discharge after 7 hours. When to private doc & he said they shldnt have squeeze out tad much blood out of hym.Furthermore, he dosent have block nose.I s eriously doubt about how they treat the lil ones with care.I would like to know how long does UTI take to recover .?i cant reli see my son crying helplessly.he is soo small .Has any mum ever encountered the same situation.? Pls share your views MUMMIES .Now i've kept my lil boy at home as his fever has subside.Frequently sponging hym.I've got to wait till wednesday as i've made a appointment for a kidney specialist to assist on this matter.MOs are seriously not reliable. If the fever increases,i would have to go baq to Kandang Kerbau Hospital to admit hym.sigh .!not liking the idea.!

The private dr that u went to is he a pd? AnywAy any urine samples taken at kkh? If yes then it shoes uti? If it is uti then antibiotic shld have been given. Uti in babies r rather serious as the chances of affecting the kidneys is high. So treatment shld b given early.

Hi,
We had a similar episode at kk few wks back. And we had a nasty experience of them being slow in treatment. Eventually we ask for early discharge with antibiotics for him to take at home.
And well, we took him to our pd last wk and told her about our situation. PD didn like the idea of kkh to take the antibiotics for so long just becos there isnt any earlier appt. So she ask us to do urine test and renal ultrasound immediately and it was ok and we stopped the meds.
We had 11 days of 3x/day oral antibiotics, followed by 1wks of 1x/day when we saw our pd. So technically, the infection should clear by then. However, if the infection is recurrent, need to do the dye test to check kidneys for urine reflux.

For personal opinion, i find the service in kkh not any better even if i am in single ward. I might as go for private specialist outside since i am already paying private rates as they are so much efficient and waiting time is slow.
If your boy is not feeling well, you should bring him to PD to do the urine test to check for infection and take some meds before the specialist's appt as it will affect the kidneys if it's really infection.
Private PD usually will not hospitalised unless it's really necessary. KKH usual protocol for uti is to stay in.

Hi,the pvt doc tad i wen to is a PD.Urine samples & culture were done & it seem tad the results of the culture takes bout 48 hrs,Sample showed he had UTI.I got a memo bout what was done to show my PD.Upon seeing the memo,my PD said tad the white cells blood count is alot & he referred me baq to KKH to see a kidney specialist. However, even if i bring hym baq to KKH now,the specialist can only see hym on wednesday.I dun find a need in getting hym admitted to A&E to see hym tortured by all the blood samples again.Instead of giving hym antibiotics, they insist on another blood sample thru his veins on his hand.Initially,we had a agreement tad they could only fraw out blood from 1 of his heel pad.Instead ,they drew out from both heel pad.On top of that, they also tried drawing out the blood sample on his hand but 1 of the jnr MO said they couldnt find his vein & called for a snr MO.Tad is wen i got hym discharge. His fever has gone down from 37.6 to 36.8.is tad ok .?shall i keep hym at hme till wednesday. My PD dun wanna give hym oral medication as he is very young & small.Oral medication doesnt work that good as well for infants.

Hi,
I am not in position to advise much but i can tell you my experience.
I don't know what is the std protocol protocol for kkh but i know mine was warded him to give iv drip of antibiotics for the first couple of days. So you discharged without meds?
The concern here is to get the infection cured asap before it does any damage to the kidneys as babies are fragile. That's why we wanted him to have his meds asap when in there.
They prob need more blood samples for the cultures so they had to poke more areas. And young babies have tiny veins so may be difficult to locate. My son was 5 mth+ when he had uti so his veins are more prominent.
Did you agree to participate in any research study? if so, they will take a bit more blood and urine culture and also DMSA scan.
I had a talk with my GP recently (i was ill after my son was discharged) and he told me that the Gleneagles have this Dr. Gong (kinderclinic) who is also renal PD so maybe you want to call and check? KKh appts are always super long and chances are when you see the kidney specialist, he/she may need to repeat blood culture/urine and even ask you to do the DMSA renal scan which requires to put in an iv plug.
Mine was borderline positive (highest temp at 38.4) but if your pd refer you back to kkh renal specialist, it's probably not something you should wait on the treatment.

Nope i dint agree on any research study.Im also anxious in getting hym treated. However,KKH insists that oral antibiotics dosent work on hym.Im definitely not gonna get them to repeat all the test.Today when my father called up to speak to the SNR MO,he coulnt give a proper explanation & told us tad we could talk 2mr in a corporate level.Im not gonna wait any further & seriously get hym treated asap. Are the IV antibiotics much more effective then the oral ones .?

Yah, iv ones worked faster cos it goes to the blood stream directly. Oral ones needs time for the body to absorb.

So are you going to for 2nd opinion or going for the specialist appt? Try to get your boy treated asap as he is still young. You can always deal with the docs later on.
Take care!

Hi,
Dun worry so much. Should be fine as it's discovered early and your boy's fever seems to be subsiding. Blood culture results should be out in 24 hrs and urine culture preliminary results will be out in 24hrs but will take while as they need to identify the strain.
Take care and rest while you can. We were very ill after my boy got discharged and had to get external help to take care of him for 1-2days.
