Here, they offer glucose test to everyone.. But I read that Asians are more prone to it, maybe cos we eat more white rice. Anyway, can't remember if I've said it before, but I failed the glucose test! Started monitoring my glucose levels at home yesterday. Also need to track what I eat. Like yesterday, I cooked everything so ok, but today after outside lunch, it spiked very high. Downloaded an iPhone app to help me track..

Good luck to all taking the test!

Huh, your hospitalisation leave is unpaid ah? Then not sure... Better check quickly!
i called and asked MOM.. they say as long as you serve the co. for more than 90 days (even if you are under unpaid leave), you will still be entitled for the 4 months paid maternity.. unless you were terminated during pregnancy..

May i know what is glucose test?
glucose test is whereby the doc will request to take you blood during the fasting and after the glucose drink to check if your body can process the sugar well.. if you fail, they will presume you have gestational diabetes..

i am so dead.. i gt to start fasting after 12 midnite.. dunno whether can make it or not.. coz i will wake up hungry in the middle of the nite.. hahas..

Oh, then maybe I can qualify for maternity leave! I need to go check it out...

My first test - one hour, no fasting - the doctor called me the day after. My second test - three hours, fasting - the doctor called me two days after the test. At first I was happy that she didn't call the day after but well, still failed!

No course leh.. But I'm going to see a diabetes specialist this Saturday - probably going to talk about diet therapy. Hope no need for medication. But yes, must test every day - I have to prick my finger four times a day, when I wake and two hours after each main meal. I'm not working but if you're working, just have to aga the time lor.. Better to do for the sake of baby..

Cannot last also must bear with it! I was also very hungry. But once you take the glucose drink, you'll feel better - even though it may not be very tasty, it still fills your stomach! Just hope you don't have to wait too long cos I waited 50min for my turn - super inefficient... Good luck!

So sorry you failed the test! According to my doc, nothing you do causes it. It's just your body being unable to fight the insulin resistance from the placenta. So now just have to help your body along by not consuming things that spike your glucose level.

I'm seeing the diabetic specialist on Saturday morning to talk about how to manage it but I've read a lot online already. So far, I've been pricking my fingers four times a day for four days already. Only two readings were too high - when I ate outside and when I had hot chocolate. I could actually eat white rice and pasta with no glucose spike. So you may have to monitor what you eat to figure out what works for you. Your specialist should explain more to you.

Btw, the 75g refers to the glucose in the drink - my bottle was about 240ml containing 75g glucose. Imagine if it's a smaller bottle, it would be even sweeter!

Good luck!
