If there is no dilation, can induced still be done?

Yup, I was 1 of them! :) Was exactly like your condition for my 1st pregnancy. I suddenly had high blood pressure nearing EDD (around 36-37 weeks) and did not go down, stayed at quite a high reading. So, gynae adviced to induce at 38 weeks. I was lucky I was prone to the effectiveness of the drug (induce tablet) and managed to have contractions and dialation, and most importantly can do vaginal/natural delivery!

Best of luck to you for the induction! ;-)
Hi ZombieMum...Thanks so much for your well wishes..I was actually admitted for 1 night for observation last week due to my swollen feet..Was put on 4-hourly CTG monitoring and blood pressure monitioring the whole night..Thankfully baby is ok...Will go for my 37th week check up tomorrow and see what my gynae says..If can,i willl want to go for an induction coz im really worried about my baby's health esp with my high blood pressure..Thanks once again..!!

Hi Mummy Izan,

i was induced at 38 week which was last week due to my waterbag leakage.
and i have sucessfully given normal birth to my baby. i was induced twice with prostin tablet and my cervix soften and they manage to proceed with normal labour. induction is a long process I was admitted on 22/10 but gave birth only on 25/10
I did a lot of squats & walking while in hospital. Anyway good luck to you.
Hi Fadeela...Thanks so much for your well wishes...Wow it took dat long for baby to come out huh..??Well as long as baby is safely delivered and both mummy and baby are healthy, its worth the wait right..?? Im going for my 37th week check up tomorrow...So far,my gynae hasnt checked my cervix yet..If he thinks im ready for it,then i would want to go ahead with an induction next week as it will be my 38th week..:001_302:

i was induced without any dilation at 38 weeks 2 days

They will insert the dilation pill for you at the uterus area, its supposed to soften/thin the uterus to make it easier to dilate.

after which it may start to dilate, starting at 2cm and so forth.

they will monitor your fetus heartbeat to ensure there is no distress or complications or bacteria infection (if waterbag burst), during the entire induction.

the last resort will be using oxytocin drip, IF there is still slow dilation.

well, the oxytocin drip is painful becoz it speeds up dilation 2x.

i had successfully delivered Baber 4years ago using this method....and it was 16hours long ~~~heeee

so dont forget to surf mummysg while waiting ~~:p

Hi CanCanMum,

did you opt for epidural when you had the oxytocin drip?

once is enufff~~~lols~~~

IF ever i have no 2, will opt for epidural 100%~~~~
hehe, did the pain make you phobia??

i told hubby i 98% sure will take epidural cos i don't want to traumatise myself in case we have no. 2 cos hubby die die wanna have more than 1 kid.

btw, doctor might wanna induce me on 21st, by then i'm only 37wk 2days.. worried that the induction is not successful..
how many of you ladies successfully induced at 37weeks???

thanks

i wouldnt say traumatise coz i associate with something bad, for me i believe it left an unforgettable experience tat i will never forget in my whole life~~it was actually an experience of a lifetime~

i meant as in IF got number 2, i wanna give birth relaxed and painless and i can sleep while waiting for contractions, so relieved rite?

Hi ladies...Seems like my blood pressure is acting up again.Just went for my check up today, had a blood test done and gynae found that the uric acid level has gone up.I dont know what that means but since baby is already mature (and big enuff @ 3.4kg..!!),induction is the best option for me.

I will be induced this coming Sunday, the 22nd Nov..Will be seeing my gynae on the Saturday coz he wants to check if my cervix has ripen. If it is,then i will be admitted and the induction will start.Expecting a long labour so most probably i will deliver on Sunday.Me and hubby purposely chose the 22nd coz its my dearest mother in law's birthday...!! :Dancing_wub:So wish me luck ladies..!! :001_302:

my boy will be induced on 22nd too by then im 37wk3days and the baby weigh 3.2kg when checked yesterday.. my cervix already 2.5cm open so i really hope my labor wont take so long and no need for c-section!!

crossing fingers my waterbag wont break this few days cos 22nd is a chosen and special to me and hubby..

check with u ladies... if go thru induction, but unsuccessful then gotta go thru c-sect... are we going to for both natural and c-sect expenses? And for induction, some went thru once, some twice before sucessful, the charge 2x induction cost?

my edd on coming monday.. doc schedule to see me on wed if i still don't hv any signs of labour and will be checking if my cervix is ready for induction. wish me good luck. I hope bb will be born soon.. cos my gynae going on leave from next sun... if not will be delivered by another doc. haiz..

woofy55 : yup u r rite. IF induction fails den go thru c-sect needs to pay for both.

induced birth is not expensive....less den $1k i rem. Becoz the bulk of the cost comes from Epidural, if u r taking it.

ok i digged out my KKH bill (22.09.2005) - after Govt Grant

Ward B1 = 2 days @ $163.60 = $327.20
Daily treatment fee = $102.20
Laboratory Investigations = $52
Specialised Investigations = 79.50
DELIVERY CHARGES = $620.40
Delivery Suite Charges - Delivered = $436.00
Drugs/Prescriptions/Injections = $100.96
Ward Procedures = $113.00
Consumables = $94.05
Other procedures = $56.50
Miscellaneous - Non treatment related = $12.50

Total $2418.50
Total Govt Grant -424.19

Total after GST = $2094.02
Total include Antenatal Claim = $2854.73 (Antenatal claim = $760.71)

I paid $1020 cash upon admission (gst 5%)
$1875 = deduct from medisave
$760.71 = oso deduct from medisave under antenatal package

So the balance was refunded in cheque to me $800.98
Funny hor, the calculations? They put everything in and then deduct from medisave

Mine was induced (pills) plus oxytocin Drip.

Delivery by natural with forceps without Epidural.

are you delivering at KK?

at KK hospital if you choose natural delivery package BUT need a c-sect your package will be converted to c-sect package plus paying for delivery suite of flat rate $361. so you DONT pay for 2 package, they will convert it.

cancanmum and honeylicious - tks.. :) I'll be delivering in TMC.. will use yrs as a reference. Now i thought of another qns, that is:

Ok, let's say i go thru inducing and w/o epidural - but wasn't successful and gotta go thru emergency c-sect. In this case, since i didn't take epidural, the c-sect i go thru will need me to be knockout totally and not able to witness my bb 1st cry and hubby won't be able to be beside me too right? Unless I had epidural - c-sect can be done while I'm conscious and hubby beside me?

u r right if by the time they need to do emergency c-sect n u r not on epidural u will be under ga. but i think ur hubby can still be there.

Some natural ways to induce is walking up the stairs.. i walked up 7 flight of stairs on the day i was to be induced (38 weeks) I wasnt dilated on the day before. When I checked into delivery suite to be dilated (using prostaglandin tablet to be inserted into cervix for softening) my gynae said i was already 2-3cm dilated.. so din use the tablet at all (saved me $70 over bucks) hehe

THt was midnight... thn he asked if I wud like to deliver later around 7am instead i said ok.. by next morning 7am, i was already 3-4 cm dilated.. thn he proceeded to burst water bag ( another way to induce birth but must be at least 2-3 cm dilated) then the contractions will come quite fast...

at around 9am, he put me on oxytocin drip to hasten , i took my epidural around 7-8 cm dilation leh.. thn less thn 1.5 hour on epidural my bb cum out di.. if i know so fast i wunt even take epi...

Hi woofy, i went through unsuccessful induction w/o epidural (didn't dilate at all after 1.5 days with 2 prostin insertions) but i did use thigh injection for pain relief cos my contraction was coming at 1-2 mins interval and i couldn't take the pain....in the end gotta go for emergency c-sect with epidural.

My gynae made an exception for hubby to go in with me (but cannot take photogragh) cos she said for KK's practice won't allow hubby to be in for emergency c-sect with epi...for normal scheduled c-sect w/epi then husband allow to be in. So better check with your gynae for TMC's practice.

Just my personal point of view, would advise you to take c-sect with epidural *touch wood*(hope you don't need to go thru c-sect and even induction, baby just pop out on his own wish), cos you will be able to hear your baby's first cry & you can feel your hubby's support, that was the most beautiful melody u will never forget in your life...I couldn't control my tear when i heard my baby's loud wail in the operation theatre.

So enjoy your last period of pregnancy journey, once the baby is out, u will have sleepless night, hehe...Best of luck in your labour, when the time comes, it will happen too fast that u won't realise you are a mother already (I still cannot believe i have a baby now!!) :001_302:

Oh really - I did a lot of walking these few days but not the stairs. Torturing for my legs cos my feet started to swell these 2wks. Will try the stairs walkup. :p will try anything to get my little boy out on time. hee..

That's good.. short labour.. Great job..jojoki :)

1.5days.. wow... so you told your doc u opting for c-sect w/epi and he waited for your epidural to take effect? I also hope that will be the option.

Ya.. i would love to hear my baby's first cry... nonetheless, i hope he'll pop without any induction if possible!! Baby, come out NOW!!!! :Dancing_wub:

hehe.. that's what a lot of pple has been telling me - enjoy now.. can sleep sleep now... do/eat whatever i want now... ohhh.. i'm so excited..:wong19:

oh oh.. 1 more qns... let's say i didn't opt for induction and allow my bb to stay inside until he's ready and my gynae's partner deliver for me (cos my gynae going on leave on sun). In such circumstances, anyone know if there's a difference between the doctor fees that i'll be paying?
