Survey: Freshly prepared baby food delivery service? or Baby Cafe?

Dear all mummies,

Just a survey on your take for the above two suggestions:

1) Home delivery service (aka "tingkat service") for freshly prepared baby food (eg. puree, porridge etc) for busy working mums?

2) Baby Cafe that is located within a shopping mall (most likely near the baby sections) so that parents do not have to fuss about preparing and storing baby's food and bring out for long hours?

Was thinking of the above as I feel it can be quite troublesome when I wanna bring my baby girl out, yet must time well after her lunch but need to go home to cook her porridge for dinner after about 3 hours! Can't shop for longer time...

Any issues or concerns that you may wanna surface based on the 2 ideas above?

Thanks!!! =)

i will prefer to prepare food for young babies on my own as i'm not sure of the handling methods n hygiene level in the big kitchens. if really not able to then otled food will b my next alternative as they r prepared in strict standard n clean environment. at least if anything goes wrong there is a batch no. to trace.

2) Baby Cafe that is located within a shopping mall (most likely near the baby sections) so that parents do not have to fuss about preparing and storing baby's food and bring out for long hours?
there's one in united sq called petite bowl. but the food selection is more ang moh style n not the usual chinese fare of threadfin porridge. price is steep too. it's not freshly prepared too, they too prepare them n freeze them up just pop them into the microwave when ordered. so i guess it makes no diff with bottles food

for me when son was younger i'll prepare soup stock in the magic cooker the night before and when it's morning i'll put the soup stock n rice grains into the slow cooker, by noon time when son takes his nap i'll steam the fish or meat and pop in the veg just before eating. forget to mention one portion w/o fish & veg will b kept in thermos for dinner. n when dinner time just prepare fish/meat n veg again. :) saves time and can shop longer outside!

Any issues or concerns that you may wanna surface based on the 2 ideas above?

i prefer to cook and prepare ds's meal on my own. usually we will go out aft ds's lunch which i ard 1pm. and i will cook his dinner at ard 11+, will cook porrigde to bring out. and b4 we go out, i will heat up the porridge again b4 pouring into the thermal food jar.

i agree it is kinda 'troublesome' as time is quite limited. morning aft brekkie have to prepare both lunch and dinner.. but i rather 'trust'myself.. :tlaugh:

Dear Candy Ian & Apollo,

Thanks for your feedback and tips!

Apollo, so does it mean you cook 2 portions (lunch and dinner) together at one go, or cook dinner's portion right after lunch? Coz I prefer to slow-cook the porridge for at least 1 hr for the flavour... and the porridge might not be fully 'soft' like congee if i immediately transfer to thermal flask just after it's cooked right?

I won't do tinkat baby food that's for sure. Most tinkat delivery is done between 3pm to 7pm. If my baby's food arrived at 3pm and is hanging outside the door, I doubt I'd want to feed my baby that food when I reach home at 7pm. I also agree with candy_ian that hygeine and cleaning methods might not be as prudent as what we do at home. It's not just the dirt in the food that I'm talking abt as well, but fish bones as well.

As for baby cafes, hygeine will sitll be a problem and more often than not, during weekends, every cafe I know of would be overcrowded. I doubt I would be willing to wait for a seat just so that I can feed my baby and what if the baby can't wait anymore?

I'd rather sacrifice my shopping for that period when my baby sitll needs home cooked food. For me, when my child still couldn't do outside food, I would take out 1 meal in a lunch jar thermos and feed him when we're out.

nope i dun cook both meals tgt. if we're going out aft lunch, den we will cook diffe lunch and dinner. mayb lunch will hav meesua or macaroni den dinner porridge. and also use diffe stocks and ingredients so he will feel 'tired' of having similar food for both meals.

i've stop using slow cooker for a few mths alrdy, ds is 13mth old and he prefers 'harder' porridge instead of those liquid ones..

if u transfer to thermal jar and only let him eat aft 2-3hrs, the porridge will be softer abit..

Actually what I meant by tingkat is that it's more of home delivery service of freshly cooked food/ puree at the time specified by the mummy. Of coz it won't be as commercialised as the typical tingkat service but more ala carte type where parents can specify the combination of food in the puree or porridge. It's more for busy working mums who either have babies taken care of by grandparents or maids.

As for the cafe, hygiene will definitely not be compromised since it's food for babies. In fact, since it is prepared by mummies, they will surely know that the top priority is hygiene. Porridge may even be included and parents may also choose the type of fresh veg or fish to be cooked in it.

Like I said, it serves as a convenient venue for parents to feed their babies with freshly cooked food, NOT FROZEN ones. For such conditions, will u all reconsider by ever visiting such a cafe or ordering from such delivery service???

FYI, I did this before.
For some mummies who delivered around the same time as me and our kids were at similar progress in terms of introducing solids :) However, they had to self collect from my place as I was busy with my boy.

Then, it changed to frozen meals cos the mummies were too busy to come over to collect daily. So I cooked on weekends, froze them and they would come over to collect them. They will heat up via steaming when needed.

I also helped them make organic dried fruits as snacks as I have a food dehydrator.
I also made egg & wheat free bread with organic cow's milk for them. Sometimes I also made cupcakes and home made organic pasta.

It's NOT PROFITABLE, I was doing it cos I love cooking and I have to cook for my boy anyways.
