My wife is at 20 weeks now so i can only share general observation i have on both hospitals.

Thomson Medical Center:
I think it is more ex than MAH. Some folks say Thomson Medical Center equipment is gettin old (correct me if i'm wrong). Personally I feel Thomson Medical Center is very cold metallic feelin, really like hospital kind.

MAH:
I went for the hospital tour (you can call 63476636 to book) and genrally felt very homely and cosy. dont really have the hospital feeling on the whole. I think it is cheaper then Thomson Medical Center. Likely we will go ahead with the double room booking (four bedded like very noisy; single bed my wife feels lonely so double bed is the balance. also their family suite is like hotel room). I am not a Catholic btw.

Hi mrs morgan,

i'm not sure about Mt. A cos I deliver my baby at Thomson Medical Center and i find all the nurses there very hospitality and they do have quite good service cos whenever i ask anything from them, they can respond quite fast and i really had a pleasant stay after my delivery thru out .. and its also very cosy like hotel style cum home cos they just renovated mid of last year so everything is new...

and as i opt for single bedded, i have more privacy there and enjoy a peaceful rest without others disturbing me together with my hubby staying with me and also his meals provided and we can even request for the baby to stay with us thru the nite and its really a private room just for you and your family... and if i'm not wrong, the charges is 2nd cheapest other than Kandang Kerbau Hospital...

My gynae is Dr Lawrence Ang from Sembawang Thomson Medical Center clinic and i must say that his charges are quite reasonable compare to Thomson Medical Center hospital itself cos the prices there is slightly higher but can get your results faster and my gynae is very experience, 'zai' and professional... and my bill come up to 5k odd including everything but after medisave i only pay 2k plus cos i ask for epi and also mine is induced labour + assisted labour, therefore charges are higher when add all these up... and it will only cost about 3k plus for total bill excluding medisave deductions if by normal birth... my hubby even praise Thomson Medical Center services as well as my gynae's professionalism.. i will still choose the same hospital and gynae for my 2nd birth...

You can visit this Thomson Medical Center website for your info on their maternity package or you can do a hospital tour at these 2 hospitals before you decide as the choice is still yours.. :tlaugh:

I delivered at thomson medical centre as I like the environment. The nurses are very attentive and helpful which make my stay there very pleasant.
For bill wise, mine came up to 6k plus as I am staying in the premier ward (natural delivery with epidural). But it's worth every penny, it's very comfortable. My gynae is Dr Adrian Tan. :)

Hi i've delivered both my gals in MAH in year April 2007 & May 2009.

April 2007 - Deposit $1.3k (last time price for 4 bedded), Normal delivery with epidural got a refund cheque abt $500+.

May 2009 - Deposit $800 for 2 bedded, Induce cum assisted delivery with epidural and need to top up $250.

Service, environment and food is excellent, got free bathtub and a gold coin with printed year of the animal..

My gynae is Dr.Chen Lin Han from Specialist Womans clinic at Yishun (Chong Pang), he's a very fatherly gynae and always put on a very warming and friendly smile on his face, even his morning staff is always very friendly.. His charges is also very reasonable too.. :001_302:

Too bad that i decided not to have any kids anymore if not i sure will go back to MAH and my gynae.. 2 thumps up for them.. :red:

Delivered at both TMC(2009) n Mt A(2007) b4~ Personally i prefer Mt A much more as the feeling during my stay there is very cozy n the nurses there r really very nice, friendly n fast frm the request i ask frm them. As for TMC i dun like there as the nurses there is slow upon my request asked frm them, the carpark there is always so packed + chaos n aso i dun feel as comfortable as compared wif Mt A~

well my gynae is Dr Koh Cheng Huat whom clinic is @ Toa Payoh Central, he is a very friendly guy always jokes with patient & treat them like friends more than patient. I delivered at Mt A (2006) Personally i prefer Mt A my stay there is very cozy, nurses are nice, friendly and fast attendance to my call. As for TMC i dont like there lobby entrance looks old & unsightly nurses not as friendly as MT.

below is my breakdown of my bill incl GST 5% @ Mt A during 2006

HOSPITAL CHARGES = $1,912.71 (with epidural)

DOCTOR CHARGES = $2,131.25

TOTAL CHARGES = $4,043.96

DEPOSIT = $1,791.30

MEDISAVE DEDUCTION = $3,050

Hi,

My gynae also same as WEN_9117... Dr Tho Chin Keong from London Clinic...
And I totally agree with her... Personally I feel that he is quite steady & calm during my baby's delivery. All went very smoothly. But he is a guy if you are not particular...

I delivered at MAH which I think it's good... Will go there again for my 2nd one. Stayed in 2 bedded room, a good environment to rest aftr delivery, food not bad but my appetite not so good hence never really finished them. Generally the nurses are friendly & helpful. But the lactation consultant seems to be very busy hence she did not spend much time with me.

May'09 Bill @ Mt A (Assisted delivery with epidural)

HOSPITAL CHARGES(MUMMY)
$1268.81
DOCTOR CHARGES
$1660.00
TOTAL CHARGES
$2928.81

DEPOSIT

MEDISAVE DEDUCTION

HOSPITAL CHARGES (BABY) - Baby stayed for additional 1day due to jaundice
$969.69
DOCTOR CHARGES
$278.20
TOTAL CHARGES
$1247.89

MEDISAVE DEDUCTION
$1119.68

Hope this breakdown helps... for your reference!

So far I'm quite happy with Lawrence Ang cos I really feel comfy with him when he does the chks on me, he will always ask how are you n ur baby and if everythings is fine when you step into his rm and he will ask if there's anything you wanna know or ask after his chk...even my hubby likes him too... his charges quite reasonable, cheaper than the tmc gynaes who are located at the tmc hospital itself.. and he's always very gentle and courteous and best of all, very experienced, calm n skillful... and he's a non-epi gynae but if you really cant take the pain and the delivery timing is still way ahead, he will allow you to take epi if you request for it just like me... =)

Oh urs is c-section sure to be more ex, who's ur gynae btw n hw ur cousin find Lawrence Ang so far?

My #1 was delivered in Thomson Medical Center and recently (last week infact) my #2 was at Mt A.

I used to like Thomson Medical Center (I never have prob with parking since there is always a valet service there) until I stayed at Mt A.

The nurses there are superb esp from the nursery ward. When you tell them you want TBF, they are really on the "ball" type. Every 2-3hrly, they will push my baby to me and help me latch on EVERYTIME without fail.

During my Thomson Medical Center time, even though I told them TBF, I got to know from the nurses that some will offer supplement at night. (I guess it depends on the nurse on duty too). And whenever they pushed my son in to my ward, they only help to latch on the 1st day (when I was still bedded due to c-sect), sub night, I was on my own..

The confinement food there is fantastic, I am not sure about Thomson Medical Center standard now since its 4 yrs ago but Mt A is really really good. Each time i looked forward to the lunches/dinners.

And recently the medisave claim has already increased so for those given birth before June (I think effectively in June) and after that, the difference and savings is alot to me.

I havent got my bill yet. I stayed in 1 bedded and since its on c-sect epi, i expect to pay around 3.5 cash (my gynae does provide an estimation based on their recent bill from patient)

But with the additional $750 medisave increase, my cash topup may be lesser than that..

My gynae is based at TMC so I go there pretty often for my appointments. One major bugbear I have about the place is the parking... and the unpleasant experience we've had with the valets. That's one of the reasons why I chose to deliver my first child at Mt A and for my next as well.

I had absolutely no complaints about Mt A (I admit I can be quite a service fuss-pot). The nurses were very good and patient. They were very proactive in bringing my baby over and encouraged me to breastfeed... and I enjoyed the meals there.

Sorry can't recall the bill exactly but it's comparable to TMC depending on the room size and if you go for natural or assisted delivery. Plus/minus a few hundred.

Although Im a 1st time MTB, but like to share my views abt both hospital. Both this hospital were my final choices.

My bestie gave birth at MT A, I must say their room are very cosy and really give u a piece of mind to stay there. Becos I dont drive the location of Mt A is abit out of the way. I remember when I rtn the BB back to the nursery room, I witness a minor accident. The nurse push the BB trolley and hit the door step, the impact was quite back. I were so shocked but the nurse did nothing not even to tk a look at the BB whether cos awaken by the shocked or not. When the nurse came to ask my bestie some question abt feeding of BB she wasnt very caring.

I went to TMC yesterday for OSCAR test, from the register counter, the nurse who took my weight, the nurse who did my scan. I must say they really have good service, they make u feel tt they are so happy abt ur pregnancy. Even the infor counter staff was very friendly and caring, I will give 9/10 for their service. The nurse who did the scan for me was really patience and treat me like a friend when talking to me, it really make me feel much at home. Went for their hospital tour, their room are quite cosy, and there is a small area for the refreshing area DTB whose wife is delivering. They even hang a sign tt sign tt say "Refreshing corner esp for DTB". I thought it was really thoughtful.
