Hi Juan, my boy at 9mths was only 7.8kg. So I think yours is still ok. You can check the percentile of the height and weight at the back of the Health Booklet. As long as you can put your baby into any of the percentiles, you're ok.

My baby's weight is in 10th percentile while his height is in 50th percentile, which makes him skinny. Not sure if BMI formula is applicable for babies to see if they're underweight or over.

my girl is only 7 kgs and she turns 7 mths this Saturday. Is she small?
Hi Juan,

You can refer to the health booklet, when baby is 6 mths old, there will be an assesment done for baby at 6 months. My boy as at 6.5 mths is only 7.2kg if im not wrong, the growth is kind of slow to me, weight percentile is 50%, height is 90%. Birth weight is 3.795kg.

When dear son is at 5.5 mths, i bring him back to PD for vaccine, he only gain 100 grams. 6.5 mths for vaccine, again another 100 grams gain. Haiz, its so slow, weight gain better after solids.

i think is normal.. cos my hubby's friend girl that time 1year old and she weighed around 8kilo+... =)
Oh no, looking at all the babies weight here and I realise my girl weigh so little.

She's coming to 13mths old and weigh only 7.31kg which is -0 percentile, height is 74cm at 75 percentile..

Everybody ask if I did feed my girl and asking why is she so small. I just feel so sad as though I ill-treat her. But her weight dun seem to increase much but height is shooting very fast. Her height can increase by 4cm in 3 mths but weight up by only 0.56kg. Although my pd say she doing fine cos she tends to grow more in her height rather than weight..

And she do love eating solid food alot but dun really fancy milk that much, will only urge for milk more before her sleeping time.

And wondering if it's related to the genes of me & my hubby cos me & my hubby used to be small size from birth all the way up to 14 years old, then only start to put on weight after 14yrs old, wondering if my girl is going thru the same...

Can anybody help or have the same experience as me to share?

Thanks..

Hi annie,

I think what your PD says does make some sense. If your daughter's height is shooting up very fast, then her weight gain would be affected. So whatever she is ingesting is used by her body to grow in height rather than weight. Not to worry too much as long as she is growing and gaining weight and hitting developmental milestones.

And yes, genes do play a part. Myself and hubby are also small built. So our son is also small. I was also very very skinny when I was young and relatives also ask my mum if she feed me well.

She's coming to 13mths old and weigh only 7.31kg which is -0 percentile, height is 74cm at 75 percentile..

How about seeking another PD for second opinion? My PD told me before, by 12 mths most baby should weigh at least 9-10kg. Im seeing another PD specialise in weight growth this dec cos doctor is away. If you want to seek another opinion, you can pm me for contact.

Everybody ask if I did feed my girl and asking why is she so small. I just feel so sad as though I ill-treat her. But her weight dont seem to increase much but height is shooting very fast. My boy also like this, doesnt seems to like milk from 3rd mth and i been cracking my head to think of how to ensure him having enough milk, at times i need to spoon feed him. His weight gain is slow at 5-6 mths, only gain 100 grams a mth. After solid, its better...Your gal is big enough, should be able to drink from straw right? I speak to a nutrionist before regards to my boy low milk intake and she has suggested giving fruit smoothie mix with milk. You can try to give her smoothie mix with milk. Eg, banana smoothie mix with her formula milk. I tried giving to my boy via spoon feeding cos he still cant drink from straw.

I realise baby who doesnt love to drink milk tends to be in the smaller range, you can try to mix milk with her solid like cereal to have more milk intake:)

Hi Annie3, just visit PD yesterday, my girl weight & height is 25% percentile, so is OK.
The PD told me that baby weight & height is also related to the parents GENE also, cos he saw me like quite a small size...

Hi Juan, your gal look proportionate to me, height and weight is 25% percentile but annie03 wise, her gal is only 0% in weight and 75% percentile in height.

Same like my boy, as at 6 mths, height 90%, weight 50%, according to the nurse who guide me to the percentile chart, she say that my boy weight according to the age is in the normal stream, if compare the height to the weight, he is slighlty abit lower.

wow, she can fight with ds liaoo... ds also 2.9 when birth but now 9.2 kilo at nearly 6mths =(

btw mummies, i think the percentile is only for reference... cos my pd did not 'calculate' the percentile for ds. i'm thinking izzit becos it is mainly for reference only so he think we parents shd not only look at the percentile?

and ya i think genes plays an impt part. ds was born only 2.9 kilo, which many ppl say is 'small' but my birth weight was only less than 2.5 last time so i wasnt wry... and now his weight is shooting up fast, become he drinks alot and is lazy to move about, somemore he is not tall so the milk he drinks goes to his weight i think...

most impt is ur baby must be healthy. =)

oh dear, very stressed reading tis thread... my ds3 is about 19 weeks, 6.55kg (height not sure)... based on healthbook, he's in 25% percentile... seems most mommies' babies here are quite chubby... mine seems very small size in comparison... sigh...

sometimes i wonder if it's becos he was born at 37 weeks at 2.88kg oni... or it doesn't affect?? reason i'm wondering about tis is cos both his bros were born at 38.5 and 39.5 weeks with birth weight slightly over 3kg... i dont seem to recall them being in the low percentile chart...
well, my dear son is 7 wks old weight 6 kg, 60cm. I measure his weight & height at 6wks+... :p

DS @6 weeks old weighs 6.26kg. No wonder my arms are aching from carrying him. Didnt measure his height.
His birth weight is around 3.6kg and height is 51cm.
