Hi Everyone!
Merry Christmas!

Want to share a poem written by an overseas parent which i love very much:

As I watch you sleep,
my problems seem so small.
The rewards you have to offer me,
are so big and so tall.

As I watch you sleep,
I realize just how great your accomplishments are.
I know how much you struggle
to have made it this far.

As I watch you sleep,
I can't imagine how my life would be without you.
Even through the hard times
I'd be lost without you.

As I watch you sleep,
I see just how much you have brought into my life.
All the joys and happiness,
all the wonder and excitement.

As I watch you sleep,
I am overcome with such love.
Your sweetness and happiness,
are something I can't get enough of.

As I watch you sleep,
I think just how lucky I am.
To be a parent of such
a beautiful little angel.

As I watch you sleep,
all of my worries seem to melt away.
I know that no matter what happens,
together we can make it through another day.

The above poem lets me get through a down period during this extraordinary adventure,

God Bless!

Blessed Christmas, everyone!

KJ mummy, yep that feeder chair is a good buy. Hope the mummy gets back to you with good news. In the first few months, Seb also preferred daddy to me ... probably coz he could sense my kan cheong'ness :err: I was so emotional & hormonal then. Plus daddy has more surface area :001_302: Nowadays he's ok with everyone who takes care of him ... we also find it better to tag-team him coz he's so high-need.

Chloe's dad, thanks for poem :) It's so sweet & poignant ... and yes I do feel like that when I watch over Seb sleeping.

Epicurean : Yes I got the chair this morning from the mummy already. Really want to thank yummymummy for that! :red:

Yummymummy and Epicurean, how do you use the chair? Do you place the feeder chair on a normal chair/table to feed so that the feeding level is higher or you just place it on the floor to feed cos I notice that there are 2 safety belts on the feeder chair which we can secure on a chair?

Good news for those who are interested to know more about Homeopathy. I have spoken to my therapist and she has agreed to explain more about homeopathy to those who are keen. She is even ready to give a talk if there is a group of interested audience. Let me know via PM if anyone wants to talk to her and I can give you her contact number with her consent.

Regarding Infantile Spasms and those whose children are on steroid therapy, can anyone share with me what kind of side effects did your child have when on the steroid therapy? How long did it take for the side effects to subside after you have stopped the steroid? Thanks.

Hi KJ mummy,

It's great that you've managed to get the feeder chair at a good price. For safety reasons, we usually either place the chair on the floor or on the sofa (which is much broader than the base of the chair) before positioning Seb in it for sitting or feeding :)

No worries we're here to help one another. We find that putting on floor to feed is bit low, so we put on raised platform so we r eye to eye n bb head won't tilt upwards so much. We used position 1 - the most recline one at 9 months cos when we make it more upright Vera tends to arch more. You can use the towel rolled up as shown to provide more side support. can do the same for the bum area as well.

The chair is pretty stable cos of the wide base so we find that no need to buckle to chair. we bring it everywhere cos its light - in restaurants we put it on the table :001_302:

Hi yummymummy

My baby (Jerrell) didnt like the chair when we first tried it on him. He made a lot of noise and arched his back :nah:so much! Afterthat, we reclined the chair a bit and he didnt arch so much but could see that he still did not like to sit on that chair..haha..Maybe he is so used to the FisherPrice rocker which is much softer. Yeah, we did put some towels as to cushion his bum and the sides but I think maybe the towels I used are not thick enough. I will try and get those thicker towels and try again.

yah need the thicker towels. took Vera quite a while to get used to the chair too--- he's prob not used to the firmness of the chair cos he's used to the fisherprice. You can try put a small pillow for the bum as well, see if it works. Or what I do is lay a layer of thick towel under the chair cover to make it more cushiony. We also make sure diaper is not too tight where the legs bend cos tummy will expand during feed and diaper may become tight. Good luck, let me know how it goes.

Hi KJ mummy,

You might want to try adjusting the chair to the most reclined angle (the 4th bar along the sides) ... that gentlest slope could be more comfortable for your boy. Good luck!

Hi Epicurean,

Ok will try to do that too. Thanks.

So far we place the feeder chair on the sofa so that the feeding level is higher. As my mother in law cannot squat or sit on the floor to feed my boy, it is easier for her to feed him that way too.

Hi alll strong mummies n daddies
I am very new here, I have a bb currently 4mths, during my third trimester of my pregnancy I was told he has mild venticular issues, which I never heard of in my life
& i read up alot on the web but mostly overseas experiences v rare here

I was v positive at first that his case was v mild, till i realised he has not been meeting his developmt milestones, whenever i bring him to doctors for checkup all of them see his features & will suspect he's nt normal which made me more upset.

I will be bringing him to polyclinic for referal to specialist in public hospital soon, keeping my fingers cross

Hi teenie,

I really hope your boy will be alright and that the specialist will be able to shed some light on his case. Hope you don't mind me asking, what are his ventricular issues?

Do it now or at 6mths old. If child missed the usual milestones (look at yr heath booklet), polyclinic will take note or write referral if sensed serious!

during third trimester of my growth scan, they spotted ventricumegaly on the brain thru ultrascan.
I read up on this majority w this condition will be normal n ok provided they meet their major milestones
but my boy's case, he's nt meeting, therefore I think a MRI on the brain will be required. and his features n headshape which do not look normal to the PDs n doctors.

I am very upset & keep crying when I was asked about his condition, I am trying to be strong, but it jus pull me down when I talk of his condition

I hope to seek support here n advices

I felt I am very selfish at times, thinkin hw I wish I didn't give birth to him
bt looking at him, I felt pity for him n sad that he has to gone thru a series of checkup etc etc in future n dunno for hw long

in another way I also worry his medical expenses due to he's nt accepted by insurance co :(

I dunno wht will happen to him in the future & I dunno hw strong I can be to
go thru w him those procedures n checkups

Dear Teenie,

In order to get to the root cause of what is causing your dear son not meeting his developmental milestones, a MRI scan will be able to determine. You may try get a referral letter from the polyclinic and ask them to refer you to Kandang Kerbau Hospital or NUH neuro department. The docs will also arrange for PT, OT and ST for him to help him reach his maximum potential in terms of what he is able to do.

Stay strong for your son as he needs you!

Mummies who's children are not able to support their head, how do you bath them ?

My dear son is still unable to support his head and I find it getting very difficult to bath him as he grows older esp when it comes to washing his hair. I am still carrying him on my hands like how we bathe new born babies but as he grows older and taller, I find it hard to do it alone. I need someone to help me support his bum so that I can wash his hair. He will very soon outgrow the bathtub too because he is growing taller each day and his legs are already touching the end of the bathtub. Everytime we tried to get him sitted so that we can bath him but he would straighten his body and legs if he is unhappy to the point that he lifted up his whole body! It can get dangerous cos we could have dropped him into the bathtub esp with the slippery soap on our hands.

Any special bath tub with support or chair we can get out there ?

KJ mummy,

We had similar problems bathing Seb in his bath tub coz when he fussed, he would go into his hypertone & stiffened like a piece of board. Plus he was outgrowing his tub, that even when sitting cross-legged, it was a tight squeeze.

Bath time has since been more relaxed & manageable after we switched him over this bath chair.
Amazon.com: Drive Medical Dolphin Pediatric Bath Chair - 1 Each: Health & Personal Care

You can also go to DnR Wheels to check out the selection of bath chairs available to find one that suits your boy.

Some things to look out for:

1. Non-slip material will be helpful coz it prevents the child from sliding off esp when stiffening, moving or struggling

2. Height - no need to a bath chair that is too high coz of safety reasons plus you can always sit on a stool to bathe him

3. Look for headrest support and safety straps if you find them suitable for your boy

4 Stable footing of the bath chair & how adjustable the various components of the chair are (to accommodate your boy as he grows and to get value for money)

5. Maintenance & care of the bath chair

Hope the info is helpful!

teenie,

I agree with KJ mummy about taking those critical steps to find out the causes for your boy's condition. With info & knowledge, you'll be better equipped to make decisions about what to do next.

Yes, it's a lot to take in ... all fluctuating emotions, info & thoughts about his condition, what he has been thru and what he may possibly go thru in the future. I know it's really difficult to do but please try to take one day at a time, one thing at time, so things hopefully won't seem so overwhelming. Take the most urgent, immediate, important step first and figure out the rest later as you go along.

You may not feel strong at the moment but when it comes down to the crunch and you need to bring your boy to whatever checks, tests or procedures, you'll find that you can be as strong as he needs you to be *hugs*

Hi Epicurean,

Thanks so much for the info! Did you order that chair from Amazon or you get your brother to buy it from US ? :001_302:

I just called DNR Wheels and the saleslady recommended me another chair with head support. She will send me a brochure to have alook.

Hi KJ mummy,

You're welcome :) I usually like to make use of my brother (coz he's Seb's godfather after all heheh) but he wasn't due for a visit back to Spore for quite some time. So the friend who recommended me the chair helped me to get it instead. Seb took a while to get used to his bath chair coz he was used to soaking in his tub while being bathed. Now he's comfy on it ... looks like he's at a spa while getting his hair & body washed!

Btw, remember to eliminate all possible causes of draft when using the chair coz it's more 'exposed' compared to being submerged in water in a tub.

I'm not sure if it's convenient for you but you might want to consider dropping by DnR with your boy to test out the chairs. Can see how he fits into it or how he takes to it plus check out the actual dimensions of the chair that fits well into the space of your bathroom, how sturdy or hardy it is. I'm not doing a sales pitch for the Drive chair :shyxxx: my friends with their paraplegic gal did just that but they didn't find a chair which they like. They then tried out the Drive chair and also decided on it. For me, I'm picky about adaptive equipment coz it's pricey and I want to milk it for all it's worth :001_302:
