Hi ladies,

Not sure if I should start a new thread but I kinda need some advice here in regards to fertility specialists around Toa Payoh area.

In a nutshell, my wife's 35 going to 36 this year, we've been trying for a baby actively since a year ago.
Problem is she's PCOS and after going to a gynec for clomid/metformin course, she tested positive for pregnancy 2 months plus ago.

Unfortunately, during one of the US scan 2 weeks ago when the egg sac was supposed to be 8 weeks ago, they did not see the egg on the scan and the gynec did an inner v-scan, found the egg but no heartbeat was detected and the egg's size was only 6 weeks old... gynec was saying if there's no natural discharge from the womb in 1 or 2 weeks, a d/c is recommended...

Very devastating for us, even more for her since she's still experiencing bad morning sickness due to the hormone pills gynec put her on.
I thought of seeking another gynec's opinion then but she said she could no longer feel her womb's stretching which supposed to be a sign of the womb expanding to accommodate the baby... It didn't kind of sink in that she had a m/c, we had problems coming to term with the m/c word until a week ago...

She didn't want to confide in anyone about her m/c as we wanted to keep it hush hush till the 2nd trimester when the pregnancy is more stable and 2 weeks on, she's still in depression currently and I'm feeling very helpless about it as well. Now, we decided to seek out another gynec who's more specialized in treating PCOS, as well as get another opinion to see if she should do the d/c instead of a normal discharge. Unfortunately, English is not her first language so the task fell on me to do some research on this.

I've came across Dr Ho's name many times during my search on fertility/PCOS specialists and it seems that he practices at Mount Alvernia. Would like to know if anyone had similar issues like ours and managed to deliver successfully under Dr Ho? Appreciate if anyone else has a recommendation on whom to go to in Toa Payoh since we stay there and prefer a nearby clinic/hospital to cut down on travel time.

Many thanks in advance...

Hi Letsi
give yourself a pat on the shoulder for being such a great husband.
you mention u have tried for a year and manage to conceive.

many of us here tried for years. so tell your wife even though she has got pcos, she is not alone.
recently i have just learnt that my relative had tried for 10 years. along the road, she had various miscarriages.

regarding your doctor discovered no heartbeat in the sac. i suggest to let nature take its course. in the EDD threads, u will realise that there are also cases where women conceived and there is no heartbeat and ending in a natural m/c.
once again tell your wife that she is not alone.

for some with similar cases the heartbeat came back, just like a miracle. should your wife have an m/c (touchwood!), fret not. some doctors say that m/c can make the woman more fertile. rest for 2 weeks and go for it again.

if your wife can get pregnant once, there is high chances that she may get pregnant again. i also agree if you are worried, get another opinion. but again suggest you just leave it and let nature take its course.

in a natural m/c, it means the baby is abnormal so the body had to let it go. for next pregnancy, may your wife get a normal healthy baby. 36 years is still an ok age to conceive.

i have read in another forum, 1 lady whose doctor says her baby is losing its heartbeat. she did not wish to give up and being desperate she took hormones to keep the baby. and her sac developed into a foetus without skull. then she realise if it is yours, God will give it to you. if it is not yours, no matter how you force it, it will not come. patience and happiness is the key.

previously had a colleague who is about 5 months in her pregnancy.
suddenly she was on long leave and when she came back, her slim figure let us know she had lost her child.
none of us asked her anything. but in our hearts we felt sad for her for it must have been a great pain.

I had a natural miscarriage before last year in June 2012
it was a devastating experience for me and hubby too, so i totally understand how you feel now.
but we refuse to give up and kept trying...
Most importantly, your wife must stay positive about her condition, seek treatment and to take care of her health this time round (if she also have m/c, touch wood too)

But now, i think all is not lost, as long as there is no bleeding for her, i think still got hope.
I would recommend you to go to another gynae for second opinion.
I have a colleague who was also told by Kandang Kerbau Hospital that her baby has no heartbeat and need to do d/c
however, she refuse to give up, and seek second opinion.... the 2nd gynae advised her to wait for 2 weeks more and the heartbeat really came back.... luckily she waited !!

My Colleague's Gynae is Dr Henry Cheng from Bishan, The Women Specialist, He is really good. U can give him a try.

but if m/c really happened (touch wood!), like what Quincy mentioned above, you will sure be able to conceive again.

Hi Letsi, as the fellow ttc buddies have mentioned here, your wifey is not alone…. Nature has its way to purge what might not evolve right in the end. Take heart that there’s still hope ok. I myself have had two MCs. One In Aug12 and one followed on Xmas day. The first was a big blow to me, and of course for my hubby. Last sight I saw of the baby was he (I think maybe it’s a he) was 12wks+. Still kicking like a rascal. I had tears of joy. One week later, I lost him. Heartbeat stopped. My world tumbled. But it was my hubby and loved ones who lifted me up. Not forgetting the support I get from this forum! I didn’t take long to get out of my shell because I knew I had to be well again to ttc one more round. Months after I did conceive again. At 6wks + I went for a scan and doc found out it could be an empty sac. I was on support pills but he said chances is 50/50. I passed out the sac naturally on Xmas day, while my first one I did a D&C.

I’m not giving up, at least not yet. I’m going full force to ttc again. I am thankful I have an understanding and supportive husband. And I believe you’re doing it just fine for your wife. Be there for her and hold her while she cries. What she needs now is time to heal. And remind her she has to get well in time and stand up on her feet again as that’s what ttc needs. There will be a right time when the mighty one above will bless you both with a healthy child.

Sorry cant help on the PCOS gynae recommendation. Hope all will turn out well for you both soon.
