Sorry i really dunno where to put this, but please hear me out...

After 12 years of marraige, i got pregnant, my first pregnancy.

I experienced bleeding in my 11th weeks but I managed to pull through and saved the pregnancy. Today I went for my 20 weeks scan, they detected defect on the lower spinal cord of my baby which might affect BB brain or cause lower body to be paralysis. I was given a choice whether to continue or terminate the pregnancy. I was devastated and lost. My hubby was with me and a great support. I asked for a re-scan this friday, and if still given the same outcome, I will admit to KKH and proceed with the abortion

To terminate a pregnancy at 2nd trimester, I have to be induced, go through the labour pain, do a D&C to clean up the womb. (My tears are falling, BB is kicking me while I am typing this it's painful but I really wanna talk)

We came home, my hubby finally broke down too, we hugged each other and cried. We decided to seek a 2nd opinion tomorrow or Thursday with another hospital, before we make a decision on Friday. We have not decide which gynae to seek a 2nd opinion... This is so tough and so painful.

Will a miracle happen or will this marks the end of my pregnancy...

i can feel the pain as i am reading this thread. I can imagine how much pain it has caused to u and ur hubby. I'm in the nursing line and has met most of the pte practice gynae. Some have them have been praised in this forum but i think likewise as someone in this field. Anyway i can only recommend u gynae i think is good. Dr foong yang from paragon medical centre, dr t b lim from mt e and dr christopher chong from glen.

Oh dear.. Sorry to hear that. Seeking a 2nd opinion would be good. Do take care of yourself in the meantime. I know it is hard, especially 2nd tri already. *pats* Take care k.

Shiseru, definitely seek a 2nd opinion.
Did your doc tell you what is the percentage of the "defect" that may or may not result in the damage or paralysis? This will be an importance consideration factor in your final decision, i think.
I hope that your re-scan this Friday will have good results. Will pray for you.. 'Hugz".

I am sorry to hear about your story.

Finally pregnant and yet such news you get today! its devastating for both you and your hubby! I can feel the pain too.....

Its good to have your hubby's support.

Be brave. everything must have a reason for happening...... this is what i believe.

It will be very tough for you if you really need to terminate the pregnancy. It will be very tough physically and mentally so please be strong if things gotta happen. - we hope not....

Meanwhile, please seek an second opinion. I recommend you my gynae CH KOH at Toa Payoh. He goes to Mt A or Thomson Medical Center. Tel: 62544022.

I really do hope they made a mistake.

i can truly feel your pain as my baby is almost as big as yours, i will pray to GOD that he'll give you the chance to keep the baby and a miracle to be given upon you and your hubby.

I went through the exact same thing .I hope God gives u the strength to go through this.I pray tht ur baby will be just fine.If u need a 2nd opinion,there is dr Tony Tan at raffles hospital.He is a fetal specialist.

shiseru, pray n ask for Gods healing. Yes n do ask for a 2nd opinion. Dr Tony Tan did the 20th week detailed scan for me. soft spoken guy. u may wanna try YG tan he is the head of gynae at raffles. Dun give up! Pray!

Shiseru, did they give you details of the 'defect'? There are different degrees of defect & if it's a case of mild spina bifida, many babies have survived it after surgery & are growing up healthy (they may hv some physical developmental delays like learning to walk later than others).

Your 2nd scan should be done with both the gynae & the ultrasound technician together. Not many gynaes will do this, you must go to those gynae with clinics in the hospital that has the detailed scan facilities.

My detail scan is done at KKH, first with a sonographer, then reconfirm again with Dr John Tee, a senior consultant. Then Dr KT Tan briefed me, she said she can reschedule another person to rescan for me this friday, then I make a decision whether to continue or terminate the pregnancy.

My aunt used to work with Mount E, she said KKH is very experienced and usually people with pregnancy complication or need reconfirmation will be directed to KKH. And for my case, both seniors consultants must be 90% confident the defect will affect the fetus hence suggested the abortion.

I know I will proceed to abort if the outcome is the same on Friday I already took the blood test or else I will have to wait till next week, It's already cruel to keep me waiting till Friday. My hubby and I are very very sad... we woke up a few times and cried...

Oh dear i am so sad to hear this, please be strong and do go for a second opinion in another hospital. Sometimes detection errors could have happen!! I can feel your pain as we are about the same stage of pregnancy. To get details & impact of the defects will help you to make a better decision. I pray a miracle will happen...Take care my dear, you need strength to go thru all these...
