Hi Loves,
Cod fish in chinese is called 'Xue Yu'. For me i dun use cod fish, coz' cod will tend to hav a very fishy smell if nt cooked properly. N this may cause ur kid to reject the porridge. Last time i used sweet potatoes, potatoes, pumpkin, carrots, spinach, liver, lean meat or fish to cook my gal's porridge. For flavour wise, i dun put salt, i used dried scallops. B4 u cook the porridge, put the dried scallop in a bowl of hot water, leave it for a few mins. When u wana cook dat time, take out the scallops, but do nt throw away the water. Use it to cook ur porridge too. It will make the porridge more tasty. :tlaugh:
6 months can start liver ? I heard liver is veri gd for baby . Just cook for the taste or can let them eat it ?

I just went to buy dried scallops just now . But I bought the bigger ones . Same ?
Four days rule meaning these four days either give the porridge he has eaten or other food that he had eaten before right ?
The dried scallops i hv is about 1cm size. I just asked my dh, he say if the dried scallops bigger than 1cm won't taste so gd. I used the dried scallops to flavour the porriage but i din't give ds to eat coz very chewy.

Ya, when u introduce a new food to yr bb, u need to c if he has any allergy within the 4days. Last time, i only observe for 2days, hv to thank mum2matty coz she post in the below thread, hv to observe for 4days. Thanks mum2matty :001_302:

i read thru this thread, feeling v sad, dunno to reply to every post or not...if i realli reply, i tink i machiam writing book liaoz....

firstly, for e sake of ur babies, i would suggest investing in a proper weaning book to guide u.....there r quite a few good weaning books available at popular...there is even 1 tt is local based with local veges n recipes....

secondly, alot of foods suggested here r not suitable for bbs tt age....there are many other age appropriate foods if u read up abt weaning...

thirdly, when is bb ready for solids? not all babies r ready once they hit 6mths....some r slower, some r faster...how to tell if bb is ready for solids? generally, ur bb should be able to sit up with support (lean on back of chair), neck is steady, will open mouth when see spoon coming, keep staring n drooling when see others eat, keeps playing with tongue (has control on tongue)....
some bbs r ready at 4mths, some later, at 7mths...
my boi was ready at 4mths...

started with:
rice cereal
pumpkin
potato
peas

general guide:
4-6mths: mild n soft veges like pumpkin, potato, peas, apples
6mths onwards: spinach, brocoli, sweet potato, pear, nectarine, apricot, etc...
7mths onwards: fish (threadfin, cod)
8mths onwards: chicken, other fishes (wild salmon)
9mths onwards: pork/beef

there is a list of foods to avoid due to allergies:
EGGS, WHEAT, CORN, etc....

pls dun underestimate the seriousness of ALLERGIES...i have seen babies die of it or get serious brain damage....
when u get allergies, some r mild like rashes, but there r some tt will get asthma or blocked lungs which lead to lack of oxygen if not detected....this lack either cause brain damage if bb manage to survive or if no one noticed, will cause death....

b4 u give anything, it is best to check with ur weaning book or online if it is suitable...if there r contradicting arguements, my advise is follow whichever is LATER...which means of book A says can give meat at 6mths but book B says 9mths, follow 9mths to be safer....what may be safe for someone else's baby may not be safe for ur own baby cos every baby is different....

for me i rather be safe than sorry...every single food my boi takes must be approved by me....i told my parents n maid e seriousness n they understand my stand....

even for teething biscuits, i check every single ingredient...at first i could not find something suitable, so end up make my own...but i finally found something suitable at the organic shop n bought alot to stock up....natural organic rice crackers with no flavourings at all....n size plus texture is suitable for my 7mth boi to learn to feed himself finger foods....

if u need any help regarding nutrition, feel free to PM me or email me...i'll try to help....

my PD advised not to give fish til 1 yo...
btw, i dun trust PDs....cos they r not trained specifically in nutrition...they onli noe general stuff....plus they r v bz tinking abt medical conditions, i dun tink they will go n remember every single thing abt bb weaning also....

but if ur PD advise to give fish after 1yo, as i said, to be kiasu n kiasi, best to follow e LATER date to intro fish....

oh ya, do u noe all commercial teething biscuits u find at supermarkets have SALT or SUGAR or BOTH??? amazingly they add such stuff n claim it is for babies....bbs should not be taking any additional salt or sugar other than naturally found in food!!!

I never give jar food to my son. It's better to prepare your own puree and freeze it, warm it up and serve.

ston ma, just like the article i've posted, many introduce solids based on their culture, past experience, i'm too, is very surprise abt starting on porridge and/or meat when baby is at 4mth or 6mth. Hving said that, in older days, when we were just a baby, our grandparents or parents wld probably hv started us on that.

newage mummies nowadays do read alot before starting on solids, however, there are some who are lost, or hv information overload :)

matty ma, i also nvr give jar food to my boi...all freshly cooked n pureed...i freeze for convenience in e beginning cos din trust e maid to cook n puree....but now my maid can handle, she will cook n puree fresh at meal times....onli porridge we batch freeze cos easier to cook a big pot of it rather than small portions everyday....
so far e onli commercial food i give is e organic teether biscuit i found :D so happy to find it cos means i dun have to bake teether biscuits every 2 days! n best part is it is organic, n wont burn big hole in my pocket cos 1 pack ard $4 can last 1-2 weeks if he takes 1-2 biscuit everyday....

actualli my mum said she onli started me on solids when i was 8mths....cos at tt time they could afford milk, so not in a hurry to intro solids....it is when she was baby, my granny had to quickly offer solids cos no $$ to buy milk, no such thing as FM...tt's y my mum said last time alot of bbs died cos dunno wot they ate also...tt's y pple last time have many kids, jus in case some dun survive....

but then again, olden day kids n kids now also v different....kids last time v hardy...not like kids now, fall sick so easily....so better to be safe than sorry....

info overload is true..tt's y i suggested to get 1 weaning book n jus follow it....easier n less confusion!

Thanks for the info :001_302:
Btw do you have any gd book to recommend ? I tried going to Popular but I cant find much books on this . Not even recipes . The ones I found are recipes for older kids but not on weaning . And any brand of teething biscuit to recommend ? Wad's the brand of the biscuit you mentioned ? And when can we introduce teething biscuits ?

Yup I only introduce when he showed signs of ready for it . When I first fed him , he was alrdy able to swallow it veri well . So far I tried giving him potatoes and carrots that I homemade it . I only let him try bottled pureed food when no choice we're not at home .

Thanks in advance . Im anxious cos I dun wan to be doing it the wrong way . Pds , relatives and even websites have been giving different info . I dun even know wad to follow now .
