I agree with stonston that too clean can backfire. Don't worry about newborn catching germs etc because they are tougher than you think! Even more so if you are breastfeeding, they will have a strong immune system to fight off whatever germs around.

I didn't clean the ears too because the doctor say no need. After some time, my baby's ears become dark brown with dirt! So now I use a wet cloth and wipe the ears, but I don't dig inside the ear.

Depends on the chore that I am doing. If it is simple things like vacumming or washing then I will use the baby carrier. If it is something that could be a danger to my baby like cooking, I will use the play pen.

My baby also don't like to drink water. Try feeding in different method, instead of bottle, use cup or feed by spoon. Sometimes that helps.
